N338 ECU for TII
I searched around a bit and found some answers...apparently an N338 vert ECU will run a TII. My question is, has anyone done this without problems for a significant amount of time and do we know which ECU is mapped more towards the lean/rich side. I'd read previously that NA ECUs ran richer than TII's (which makes no sense). Anyone shed some light here who had used this ECU on a TII motor? I received it with my TII rebuild/swap for my NA and want to know if I should just do it or get a TII ECU. the N338 ECU would be controlling an 87TII motor in my 88 NA car
phew, a mouthful

I ran my vert when it had a Jspec in it with a N338 with no problems at all, for about a year.
But as far as what went lean or not, that I could no tell you, as I never dynoed or had a A/F meter on it.
Other than wiring in the knock box and the scroll control and moving the power steering input to a relay, it was pretty straight forward.

any mods on the car ice? anyone else have any thoughts? I read that the 88 N338 ECU from the vert is actually a TII ECU since all verts were made in japan only and japan only FC's were all verts.

It basically all runs the same (i.e. N332 and N333).
It looks like the N338 ECU has a separate "turbo" maps area which it can toggle to if you plug it into a Turbo II.

Air filter, S5 Rotors, down pipe, but stock main cat and cat back.
I thought the Jspec ECU was the N340.

I'll be running the N338, an HKS downpipe, my own racepipe, Apexi dual N1, no emissions, a GReddy FMIC and a walbro - really don't wanna blow anything up. I'll also probably have to use an open element filet, I dont think the stock intake fits with the FMIC piping in the new kits. is the walbro and FMIC enough to keep me safe with this ECU and a ported wastegate? I've got a new Profec B but I don't think it'll do much good if the boost creeps to 12 even with the ported gate.

I wasn't running as much boost as you expect to see, so its hard to say. Off the top of my head I would think it should be fine, if you wire up the knock box and sensor as well. But again that is just a guess, and I don't have real data to back it up.

I'd run a cat to keep the boost down but I don't want the airpump (weight, clutter). anyone know if the stock intake box will fit with he GReddy FMIC? I'll def. use the stock TID though so I don't creep to badly. I'd really prefer not to get injectors and an AFC at this point - I'd love to have that be my second round of mods along with a worked stock turbo. 1st and 2nd gear don't concern me since the boost wont hit it's max...I'm worried about the occasional redline in 3rd or 4th. I've got the knock box...I'd also prefer not to richen the stock AFM the old school cheapy way (loosen the spring). maybe just a pre-silencer or some other exhaust restriction?
