n/a trany rebuild question
Hey guys I'm looking for a little input before I attempt this. My dad is a mechanic but he's never rebuilt a trany before. Now I live in the middle of no where and there aren’t any shops that I would trust to rebuild this thing plus they charge out the *** for any import work. My question is that is this just a dumb idea to try and do this my self or can I do this with the shop manual and a little patients. I have all the normal shop tools, so what special tools would I need to get to do the job right? As for parts I found this place out of las Vegas where I can buy a rebuild kit. thanks for your input

Transmissions are a game unto themselves. You need assorted LARGE snap ring pliers & other random tools that aren't needed for any other repair work.
For N/A trannys, it's cheaper to just buy a decent condition one :-) They're cheap.

Alot of the gears are pressed on to the shaft so a press is a must. There is directinal specfic wahsers between the gears so just make sure everything goes in the way it came out. Please replace the front case bearing if you do decide to rebuild your trans, because they can be noise. Also our trans like to drop it self in to reverse ones in a while. http://www.miata.net/garage/stuckreverse.html This link provide some solution to the problem. Good Luck!!
