N/a Man Reborn As Turbo Ii Freak
Ok guys I am in the process of swappin in a J-Spec S5 Engine in my 88 GXL. The engine has 35,000 miles on it and has great compression. Well either way my mod list is a brand new RACING BEAT FULL TURBO II EXHAUST, KNIGHT SPORTS FCD, K&N FILTER, 750cc Secondaries and ALL EMISSIONS REMOVED. How much hp should this setup be making (just an estimate?) And I have an S-AFC to tune all of this stuff. From stuff I have been reading I should have anywhere from 250-270hp at the flywheel and capable of running mid to high 13's in the 1/4. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am excited that in about 2 weeks the entire swap will be done and my car will actually be as FAST AS IT LOOKS. thanks

Well the engine I am getting comes with 205hp and 196lbs of torque, so I hope it would be more than 200hp or I would be highly PISSED..LOL But yeah just the Full Turbo II Racing Beat Exhaust gets u runnun 10-12psi@ a 59hp gain over stock, plus I'll have the K&N Air Filter and manual boost controller(forgot about that). But I will be runnin 11-12psi, dont want to go more than that w/o running a EMS right? I am thinkin at least 250hp at the flywheel?

I have an S5 TII ECU with the G-Force chip (over $400 new) already mounted in it-it eliminates the need for the fuel cut defensor because it changes both ignition and fuel maps. It's specifically made for any S5 TII that has intake and exhaust mods, and I'll sell it for $275. That would put you closer to where you want to be powerwise. You wouldn't need the boost controller either, you'll automatically be running 11-12lbs boost with your intake/exhaust mods. It would go perfect with your bigger secondaries-let me know if you want it.

No the wastegate is not ported....and that ECU w/ the G-Force chip sounds like adgood idea and great price , but I just dotn have the funds for it....LOL This swap has been pretty costly...probably around like $3500 for the total. But I mean if i dont port the wastegate will things get ugly....or is it just something that will better my performance.

Porting the waste gate should be a priority.
With you current mods, the stock waste gate will push your boost way up in the danger zone in 3rd & 4th gear.
It will be a blast for a while, then all your work goes pingety ping pop.
Did you get the pressure signal wired on the S-AFC?

spending too much money..

actually what I would get before the 750cc injectors would be a walbro fuel pump. The stock injectors are good to around what 12 to 14 psi however the fuel pump is what really needs upgrading as well as a fuel pump rewire however in an n/a I don't think you have to do that, I could be wrong.

Thanks for all this help guys well here is the deal. I have a Turbo II Transmission and T2 Driveshaft. I am using the N/A rear end but the mounts have been replaced using Mazdaspeed Racing Mounts(45% stiffer than stock). Eventually I will get the T2 rear end just didnt have the cash for it right now...but everything else is T2 drivetrain. Ok the swap is being performed by www.rotorsportsracing.com they are using a 87-88 T2 ECU and Wiring Harness to hook up to my S4 Dash Harness. And I have an S-AFC to help control the fuel. I have a Cosmo 20B Fuel Pump in the car so that should be plenty good on this engine. SO u say porting that wastegate will save my engine....its not expensive is it...i mean I cant spend much more money...lol. But yeah I cant wait to see what mid 13's in the 1/4 feels like. Anyone have any more suggestions or advice...please feel free to help me. thanks

thes guys you are paying should know to port your wastegate. Second you will have a wiring mess running a 88 harness with a 89 motor. My friend tried this and the car never ran right and he blew the motor in 4 weeks. He had wires all over the floor board and I was scared to ride with him because I didn't want to kick a wire and the whole thing shutoff. Next question is the motor they are installing is a rebuild of a jspec right?

They do know how to port the wastegate...LOL But yeah they are changing a few things on the wiring harness but they have done swaps like these before and had no problems...but by any chance I do I have problems I get my money bck or sent another engine....But they are a famous shop and have done some cars in magazines and the owner is currently putting a 20B into his FD, and the other guy has a NICELY MODDED FC. But they know they're stuff. They are the best people on the East Coast. The engine is a Japanese S5 with 37,000 miles on it. It has been compression and leak tested and passed well. The turbo is also in great shape.

Best of the east coast my ***. Ever heard of Pettit racing or Peter Ferrell? And if you are paying 3k for a t2 swap without a rebuild and using a NA rear end you are getting fuc*ed.
And just to let you know the motor you are buying with 37k miles on it is out of a junk yard in japan. You might want to do some research and check some prices on exactly what you think you are buying and exactly what you are getting. Because it sounds to me you are spending 3k for a 900 dollar jspec with a t2 tranny.

By the time his shop pays shipping to NC & adds all those goodies & labor...
They may be doing the WG port job as part of his package, but he needs to check.

Congrats on getting a 13bt. Why pay a guy to put it in though, don't have the time? It's always good if you just swap the engine yourself and do as much work as you can do by yourself, you really learn a whole lot.

I'd say you will be in the 200-230 flywheel range.
The stock turbo loses efficeincy over 14psi and starts to eat itself.
Right now on a Stock S5 turbo I run around 8psi and do 160at the wheels.
Wastegate porting is a must.
I have a VERY high flow exhaust and I hit 10psi in 3rd/4th and have seen it creep to 11+ in 5th and this is on a S5 hotside!

I dont understand how the engine can come with 205hp and 196lbs of torque and produce only 200-230hp at the flywheel with all the mods I named. The Full Racing Beat Exhaust alone gives a gain of 59hp over stock, not to mention the K&N Air intake filter and manual boost controller and all emissions being removed. I mean HONESTLY I had an aggressive streetported 13B N/A with ported and polished Intake Upper and Lower, high compression rotors, T2 Housings and a few other mods and it layed down 183rwhp. So if these results you are saying are true then I really must have wasted all of my money....and thats not cool at all. And to clear things up I got the J-Spec engine, tranny, and Intercooler, and ECU, and complete Wiring Harness all for $1250. The cost of the labor for the entire swap is $2000. i really thought that the horsepower of these Turbo II engines was alot greater than that....if I am putting all these things on it and it only makes 200hp I will sell the damn car in a heartbeat.

I was told that porting the wastegate would be a priority...and yeah u do receive a gain of 59hp at the flywheel....but I hear the stock T2 exhaust is VERY RESTRICTIVE!!!!

oh man i think you need to get out -
a: a 6 pack of beer
and
b: a pot of coffee..
got them?
good. now do a search in this forum of 'tII' and read EVERY SINGLE POST.
youve got some catching up to do.
and exhaust will only give as much power as a 13 year old ECU will let it. and ecu using 15 year old sensors and a 13 year old motor.
im glad you have an SAFC, and porting the wastegate will cost like 80$.
running mid 13's shouldnt be hard with some mods, but you will have to make sure the cars tuned pretty well or you wont be running 13's for very long.
im not trying to like rain on your parade or whatever, just letting you know, its an old motor in an old car. its not exactly a plug and play thing. dropping a k series motor into an ek civic is pretty much plug and play, but not rotaries that are from 1991.
