And thats where my paycheck is going come friday
transmission, hydraulics, pedal assembly, and driveshaft, LSD and 4.1s or 4.3's if i can find htem for a good price will be next.
Then 5 lugs
At least I got a good price on the car or I'd have a reason to bitch.

most N/A's eat up all the rice..i mean i go out every week end and get full on rice..
me and my friend raced the other day
he happens to have a 240SX w/ the SR20 swap
and it was pretty close. but i got him good on the punch
but he turned out on top after time....
but my point is, is that the NA has capabilities
all ive got is an intake, midpipe, no accessories, electric fan,and a BDC modded TB....and i still go home happy every nite...

Just don't try and run anything bigger than a V6 from a light. I usually do all of my races vs. GTs and Trans Ams from a 30mph roll. That is where the beauty of n/a shines. No torque, ridiculous top end. Rice, well CL Type-S from a stop, RSX, Si, etc from a a stop have all been creamed by little red flame thrower!

N/A's fast... well, no.
In stock form, this car was fast in 88, but not really now.
I don't care what some people say, the S5's are faster then the S4's. The S4's need a lot of work to get going.
The beauty of rx7's is that with a few mods, they get fast very quickly. Especially the TII's... they are the cheapest way to get into vette speeds out there.
Anyways.... get an S5, street port it, and do a full exhaust an intake. An S-AFC is good to, but then you will have a very nice, mid-low14 sec car, It'll also be loud, and have no low end power. ALso, it will be maxed out. You may be happy with it for a while, but then you will want more.... then you have a problem, there is no more! Well, without getting into custom turbos and such.
They are great car to learn to really drive though!
I can easliy beat any factory mustang out there, any year, from a start or whatever, by a wide margin.
Older vettes are good races too, (not new ones!!!)
I've NEVER lost to a Honda, supercharged or not, and never will!

"Older vettes are good races too"
depends what your definition of older is...
a 69 stingray with a 327 is pretty damn fast...
as far as N/A goes mine is fairly quick
no trouble smoking stock 5.0

If your car is done to the limit, you may or may not beat it.
Bone stock TT's run about 14 sec flat, depending on the year.
Good luck, I've never raced one.
First mods, always exhaust first.
Catback, then racepipe (cat replacement pipe), then headers if you want (Loud, minimal gain unless your engine is ported)
Then get an intake, Just a universal K/N filter works fine.
Of course, make sure everything is working properly first.
Then you can get into porting the intake manifold, get an ignition box and wires, and do some fuel tuning (great gains to be had with an S-AFC)
If you still want more, rip out the engine and port the housings- good for 20% more power, but a slight loss in low end. Headers are usefull on ported engines especially.
You can get rid of the air pump and emmisions systems, but S5's require reworking of the aux ports if you do that.
Start throwing weight off if you want... sound deadening, power steering, A/C.
Everyone uses Mustangs as a benchmark for speed.... if it's faster than a Mustang, it's fast, if not, it's so-so.
Truth is, Mustangs are NOT really fast at all. The only ones I would consider quick are about the 96+'s I think.... In Cobra trim. Those run mid 14's.
The GT's are all about the same.. around 15 flat.
The Cobra R of course is damn fast.... into the 13's.
Damn my buddy's Berreta GT can pull any Mustang GT from 85-97. (They got faster in 98 or 99)
That's pretty sad, it's BONE stock.
I guess when you are trying to rice out a 4 banger commuter car, a Mustang seems like a good target!

Oops, just saw that the Z in question was an 86.
Bone stock, you probably will lose by just a hair... but a few mods and you are a speck on the horizon...
I may be wrong though, never raced one
They run mid 15's new... probably a little slower now!

Who the **** cares about rice? I care about being put in my seat. Anything slower than 13.5 does not put me in my seat as much as I like, IMO.
And yes, mustangs are weak. Cheap to modify though which is what saves them.

Are you seriously saying that the older body style (sorry- not a stang expert- maybe under 92?) are faster??
FOR every one I have raced, the newer styles (especially the more angular style- 96+ maybe?)have ALWAYS given me a better race.
I am in the Mustang damn capitol of the world too- everyone and their borther has one here!!
The older 5.0's are SLOW.
Buddy- you just opened a bigger can of snakes than you can imagine.
You are also a loser.
If you are calling my car a "turd" (WTF is THAT??) I will race you ANY DAY!!! My N/A runs low 14's, and I haven't timed it since the last batch of tuning. I'll race you for MONEY$$$ if you have a 5.0, you fart talking queer!
Boy, must really suck to have nothing but a limp dick. There are drugs you can take for that you know!

Listen buddy, I am only about 4 hours away from you, but I will only race a bone stock 5.0 if I am bored out of my skull.
Is it just me or did this guy just call me out??????
If you want to make it worth my while, I'll go down there, and make you 1 G poorer. No deal otherwise.
****, what am I saying, you don't even have a 5.0 of your own!! What a poser waste of space... "Duh..... my buddy has a car...... duuuh...."
If you want to play, you gotta pay, otherwise, get off this forum.

What's up with your attitude? You're stepping on to our turf, talking **** about the seven, when it's not even warranted. It's disrespectful to us, and.. damn man, grow up! 4 posts and already making yourself unwanted. You should just stop now, pistonbiscuit. Go brag in the 3rd gen forum, and see what reception you get there.
Back to the question:
Are n/a's fast?
Depends on the driver, and how much gas you want to use. ^_^ With shifts @ 3-3.5k for mpg, you'll be slower than ****... With shifts @ 7.5-8k, you're pretty speedy. Not the fastest in the world, but still adequate. Handling is superior though. Very agile, and personally I haven't pushed the limits of what it can do. (This is speaking from a 1990 GXL that is completely and utterly 100% bone stock.)

I said my friend's car because my car is faster than a stock 5.0.
If you really want to go for $1,000 it is no biggie to me. Bring your N/A 13b and a bus ticket home.
My car should be on its way to PA though, so this better be quick.
I'll even play nice. Here is a motor shot.
It is just a small block. No juice. Pure N/A "big boy" V8.
Zen: I have no attitude problem. I just can't stand to read such utter crap. There is no way in hell a stock N/A RX7 will pull a stock fox body (assuming both are in proper tune and have the same driver of course). Trust me, I know what RX7's are capable of. I have plenty of buddies with them and love all of them (FC's and FD's). - There is a reason I registered a couple of months ago and just NOW posted. - This thread is stupid, so stupid it warranted someone to be the dick. – Me.
That doesn't change my opinion on the N/A subject. The cars are turds. There is NOTHING you can do to change that except for a power adder (on a 13b anyway, 4 rotor or something like that, of course).
Why did you bring their handing into this? I never commented on that – nor did anyone else in this thread? You act as if I don't know what an RX7 is capable of.

I am an expert on this subject since I own both of the cars and race them(wife usually runs street et in my 7)
a bone stock N/A WILL NOT BEAT a bone stock
87-93 mustang LX or GT 5.0 PERIOD
unless the driver sucks so bad...
now if you got a lot of mods and dump
a lot of weight they will be no problem
beating a stock 5.0
but one of my concerns is how many stock
mustangs are in the drag world..not to many
if you guys really want to know how fast they
REALLY ARE go here and look up
http://www.nmraracing.com
say uh..pure street class all motor..no nos,blowers
turbo etc...for those that don't care to look link
up..high 10.'s in a 3000# car is standard
and big props go to my good friend dwayne...
Dwayne Barbaree 10.90 @ 122.6...
hell..factory stock class is running high 11.''s
