My walbro 255 is dead after 5,000 miles

What a piece of garbage. same thing happened to friend in 240sx. I knew they were not the most relieable pumps, but damn, 5000 miles?

It started whining louder about 3 weeks ago, then yesterday it felt like I was hitting fuel cut when boosting , today it would barely get up a hill. I had to open hatch and beat the hell out of fuel pump cover twice just to get home.

Anyone ever use MKIII or MKIV supra turbo pump on their TII? Or maybe 300zxTT? I get local parts store discounts and will not spend more than $100 on pump. Need to find one compatible...

Are you sure it's the fuel pump giving you trouble? Checked your fuel filter? The wiring at the pump? If the car starts/runs, I'm sure the fuel pump is operating just fine. When a fuel pump is dead, the car will NOT run

more than likely its not the actual pump. Most people on here that have them have never complained about them. Like stated above, check the filter and wiring first.

Supra TT pump is one of the best you can get. Good luck for finding one under $100 though.

yes I'm sure its the pump. the brushes inside dont want to spin no more...
its been rewired, gets all the power it wants, and filter is clean...
I bang on the pump cover and it gets quiet for a sec then gets louder. I bang on it some more and it changes its tone for a second and then gets louder.
even though it starts/runs that doesnt mean the pump cant be bad. there is more than one way a fuel pump can fail...
I dont care what everyone else on here says, I have friend who had same problem w/ the same fuel pump.

I can get MKIII supra pump for $75, checking on MKIV
anyone ever use 300zx TT pump?

edit: MKIV pump is $230 and 300zx is $200
maybe I'll just get another walbro

Having the pump change tone when you bang on it means nothing. You're just shocking the internal drive. If the car starts and runs just fine (not WOT, just regular driving) then the pump is NOT your problem. Check fuel injectors, fuel injector wiring etc...

I had the fuel pump go out on my 240 after puttin some fuel system cleaner in it and it would not start at all. If I were you, I would contact Walbro and tell them what happened and try to work something out with them. They might be interested in why their fuel pump doesnt work correctly anymore. You might even get a free pump out of it, you never know.

You didn't drive the car with low low fuel did you??? walbros tend to overheat if they do not have at least a little fuel going through them

Mine started to whine on the way back from Sevenstock(200 miles or so into the drive).

It was sooo loud you could hear it whining from 20 feet away from the car with the car running(Corksport on too!)

The fuel pressures started to go low and fluctuate.

It has about 6k miles on mine so far.

It runs fine now though. So I think the long drive just over heated mine and made it run poor. You may want to figure out the exact times it does this.
IE: Right after startup/long drive/quick boosts/etc...

Walbro's whine occasionally....every single car I've driven with one has whined. On many cars, you can let it idle and sometimes it will whine, other times it won't. The internal gears are made of metal which make more noise than OEM units.

also crappy gas with junk in it.
think about it.. 15 plus year old cars..... how may tanks of gas???

also some could have put a hand full of dirt or sugar into you tanks as a joke..

or some drunk though it was a watering hole and filled your tanks with "pee acid" that detroyed the pump

Test it. Remove the pump, put a length of hose on the outlet and stick it in a bucket of water. Give it 12V and see what it does.

As soon as something like that started whining, I would have tooken it out right away and checked it out. Most likely, something needed to be greased up inside, im sure of it.

For those of you that say "well I need my car operational", im surprized you said that since you just read this thread

I dont think you cant grease anything inside of pump...
My tank was professionally cleaned and coated w/ polymer before car went on road. No trash inside of fuel tank.

Icemark and digi7tech sound the most right. my fuel sending unit doesnt work greatl so it probably has been driven low on fuel. I'm a mechanic and tell people to fill up at 1/4 tank, so its probably my own fault. I still think it should last longer, I never ran it out of gas.

It seems to be getting worse every time I drive so I wont be going anywhere except maybe work to test the pressure. I'm 100% sure its the pump though.

jon, ever had a car that wouldnt start and then you bang on the gas tank and it starts right up? same kinda thing here, just hard to describe everything on internet

Actually no I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just don't believe the fuel pump is your problem. IF you are going to get another pump, the nippondenso pump for a supra TT is the highest flowing fuel pump they ever made for an OEM car (I believe). You can buy like another 2 walbros for that much $ though hehe
