my rx7 almost died!!! Well might be dead
Hey, well last night was a pretty gay night. What happened was my alternator belt snapped on me. I went and replaced it right away, but driving home all my idiots light come up once again... So this is my 2nd belt, and this time driving home and by battery is going down to 11.2volts So I'm thinking I'll be fine I'm almost home... No, little do I know I'm starting to over heat a little, but not to the H just 3/4 of the way.
I am hoping I did not mess up the coolant seals, since my air pump belt popped off when the alternator belt snapped the 2nd time... I just found out what caused it to snap... It was either me or the previous owner, the air pump has a spacer... It goes indeed on the front side. I barely made it home, but I'm a wee bit worried on the coolant seals. Since when I was under the hood, the coolant was just boiling, since I did not have any belts attached to the water pump anymore. Gay night. I'm to go get new belts again.. and hope she didn't blow a seal. Wish me luck.. If not I gotta start looking for a new engine

LOL ^^ thats funny. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH Well turns out, I dont know why the belts kept on snapping... I replaced it the 3rd time the exactly same way and fixed... I thought I blew the coolant seals since I added some more water after driving, but no. Had a friend turn over the engine with egi fuse out to see if the coolant would overflow out of the filer neck... I'm fine!
Hmmm I wonder what caused the belt to snapped both times..

You might have a bad alternator. If you can, take it off and take it to autozone or Napa to get it checked. You might need new brushes. The alternator could have froze up with the barring it spins on. It could have snapped them both. Or it could be the water pump some how locked up. I am pushing more towards the alternator.

alternator has a spacer on the Back side of it,between the Bracket and the Alternator(S4).NOT the Front of the alternator.
I don't think the air pump has one,I could be wrong though.
you need to look at the Belts with the car running to see if they line up while the Belts are spinning.if not something is up.a Bad belt alignment will Snap belts in a Few miles of running.New or not new.
By the way,NO belt on the Waterpump. That was your mistake,.If the Engine has suffered, you are gonna regret it..a 2 thousand dollar Mistake.

No, everything is fine. S5 go not have a spacer/bushing on the alternator. It does have a space on the air pump however. I know it's right because it's alternator first then air pump belt. Alternator isn't bad, I know for sure it's good. It just decided to have a pissy fit..
Yeah, I know mistersty. When the first belt snapped the air pump belt was still on. So when it snapped the 2nd time I didn't pay too much attention. until 3/4 then went into a gas station. Moral of the story: I got lucky. Everything was set good. But I got lucky
All the pullys spin fine, I can spin the water pump fine, the alternator fine, the air pump fine, and spin the crack with both hands.

Every alternator S4 & S5 has a extra thick washer/spacer block on the back side of the bottom bolt. If this washer/spacer wasn't there the nut that holds the harness would tear into the alternator body itself.
I would bet this washer is gone. I would bet you will continue to destroy belts.
Check the belt you have on it now, see if the rear side of the belt groove is worn down more than the front edge.
How loose/tight do you run your belts. Pull the belt at longest distance between 2 pulleys and you should barley be able to twist the belt around 270 degrees.
Have you checked all the hard ware holding the pulleys on? Are they all tight?
You just don't snap belts,, 1 after another, just because its the middle of the month and Aunt Flow is in town...
Just trying to help ya.. The spacer is probadly layin right next to the coolant sensor on back of housing..they are always sitting right there.

S5 do not have the spacer. It's the air pump. The alternator belt goes on first.... So no spacer need, belts line up fine. It's the air pump on s5 that need the spacer on the front side. You can think logically, but it's an unknown happening. I just don't care, anymore. Belt didn't snap anymore, i'm getting the right voltage. So I can't complain.
