My New Project or cluster f***, i should say

$300 is always a deal as long as the chassis is straight and relatively rust-free. The fact that it may have a turbo driveline, if you're lucky, is gravy.
New, freshly rebuilt engines run around and about $2500.

That VIN is NOT for a turbo car.
You have a full on N/A, eiter STD, sport, GX, GXL or a 2+2...
Let me make that clear - that was NOT a turbo car from the factory...........
edit: you might have an LSD pumpin if it was a GXL, but you do not have a TII tranny, TII driveshaft or half shaft or even a TII rear end, just the possiblity of a LSD....
Not trying to discourage I just don't want you thinking you have turbo stuff without knowing what you're getting into.

beats me, but its not a Turbo...
On my old beater jetta the insurance and ownership both said it was a 1.6 turbo diesel.........well it wasnt and was never a turbo diesel, my godfather owned the car since new and it was always just a 1.6
this is probably the same case

if i were you i would make sure that all your vin #'s match on all arears of the car. I dont know but i def. think that that is a N/A and clearly not a T2. if you do not have t2 mirrors, bppst gauge, anfd tranny, etc. you have abiously been sold a N/a with a hood from a t2.
I would never guess someone would ''swap'' everythibg including the whole drivetrain for a n/a.
Me personaly, i would say you would spend alot more time and money on this project to convert everythibng back to Turbo status. Why dont you just sell the hood and a couple of other goodies that are still salvagable, get some money and buy a true t2 that is either running or not.
Thats just going to be more of a time consuming headache for you when it comes down to gettingthat thing back up to par.

Ok so since I am doing this i guess tomorrow I will get out there and start tearing out all the NA equipment. What do I need to look for on say the rear end to ensure that it is not from a turbo? Also I guess this means I now have a 1987 s4 na Engine, Intake, Tranny, Exhaust manifold, ECU and any other parts I will be replacing along the way, for sale. Any takers? Let me know and i will throw them on Ebay.
