My new GTU :)

Hey, just wanted to let ya guys know taht my dad is a mazda dealer.. well he called me today and told me they got a 90` GTU 65k miles on body/engine, almost MINT. The only problem was that it had a blown engine.. it was a 65 year old mans car and he didnt know what happend, apparently an apex seal went bad.... Sooooo my dad gave him $300 for the body. Since my dad is best friends with the head mechanic and rotary specialist, he told him that he could get him a brand new S5 engine and installation for around $1700. I want a Turbo2 engine installed, how hard would this be? I know there is a sticky thread on this section but.. could this be done without alot of hassle? Thanks!

You'd have to get a new ECU and tranny most likely

Ya if you swapped the motor you would want to look for a TII tranny aswell. The motors you can find all day online, its the transmission/drivetrain thats hard to get ahold of.

Find yourself a TII if you want a turbo, the headaches aren't worth it. Theres a lot more involved other than putting a turbo engine in it.

Hmm, I'm trying to think of somebody to ask about this conversion... it's almost there... no, I can't think of anybody to ask this question. Can you?

congrats on the find. sounds like the body must be in great shape...

but like everyone else stated you'd be MUCH better off finding a T2 and starting from there if really wanna go turbo. see if he can find a pristine 89-91 T2 to start with

thanks guys, my dad says he thinks it might even be the starter, because the apexs dont go bad with 65k miles, an old guy driving it that garage kept it since 90`, oil changes respectivley, and prolly never seen 4k on the tach .. btw i see that the 90 gtu does 1/4 in 16.7?? that cant seem right... i was thinking more of high 15's ... anyways, if the engine

Also check the AC compressor. A friend of mine bought a GXL with a "blown engine", which worked just fine once he cut the belt on the locked-up AC compressor that was keeping the engine from turning.
