my motor went pop on the interstate

my 7 died tonight,.............
ill explain if anyone cares,

im sad

but my real reason for posting is i need to know how to adjust the idle on a mazda 626 its a 95....maybe 94...
anyway the idle was set too high by a crooked mechanic (its my parents car)..and now when its in park it idles at around 2-3k ........i need to know how to take it back down........its giving the car a beating as when i put it in drive it bucks like mad...

please if you know any websites or anything....

i would buy a chiltons or something, but i need to try to fix this before i go to work in the morning...

It's probably a simple screw adjustment on the outside of the throttle body. Look around where the cables from the accelerator attach to the butterfly valve, it probably uses a screw as a "stop"... back that screw out a little.
I'm just guessing here, I've never looked at a 626.
Good luck

i was on my way home from work on the interstate
(I-24), and i was crusin at like 70-80 MPH, all of a sudden there was a pop like noise and then NO power...
so after cussing myself, i got over in the far right lane and keep it going.....i had to shift into 4th to keep it alive and i just keep going......NO power......
I made it to my exit, and on the way up the off ramp the car died.....so i let go of the clutch in 3rd and it started again....i then coasted to the first gas station and it died again so i just rolled into a parking spot and its still there.... as soon as it stopped i got out and there was some smoke coming out of the hood scoop, so i prayed it wasnt a fire....
when i got the hood up there was some smoke coming from around the turbo....its wasnt real thick, but it was there.....it stopped a few minutes later....

my friend said it sounded like detonation, and im sure i messed it up even more by trying to get home....i just didnt want to leave it on the interstate or in unfriendly parts (too shady)..........

long story short, now i need a new engine....
i was just gonna rebuild my current one, but know that it blew i think it would just be better to get a reman or a j-spec or something and just drop it in there....

give me your comments and suggestions please as to the easiest solution.....i think im gonna have around 2 grand soon to throw at it soon......

PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS.....realistic ideas

I don't know how far west of Morristown you are, but Kevin seems to do good work for reasonably prices.
http://www.rotaryresurrection.com./

I stopped by there Saturday to pick up a part, and he was just finishing up a TII rebuild. The guy drove up from Florida for Kevin to rebuild his engine, so he must be pretty good.

i know of kevin, and i was going to get him to rebuild it, but now that it is dead im gonna have to change my game plan...its too far to tow, and ive heard of a guy in sparta who kicks *** apparently....and he is only like an hour away as opposed to 3 or 4.....
now that im just gonna get either a reman, or a j-spec all i really need is someone to put it in.....
if anyone lives close to middle TN and wants to help im willing to pay for everything as far as gas to get here, and a place to stay...if it comes to that.....
im gonna go look for some prices on remans and j-specs....cause im gonna keep my blown core, and slowly build it up to be a beast....plus having an engine that i can rebuild at my own pace will be a good way to learn more of the ways of the rotaries....

if anyone knows any sites that sell remans, or jspecs please let me know....

thanks for everything......IM BUMMED......NO MORE GO FAST!

Hey, I just got my engine from here:

www.rotaryworks.com for my TII. Tell him wankelman7 sent you. He's a great guy to deal with. He hand picks his jspec engines, and then rebuilds them for really good prices.

The engine in my NA just died last tuesday just like yours did.

That's the COMPRESSION RATIO. 87-88 TII's had 8.5:1 while the 89-91's had 9.0:1. That engine is the right one for your car and if the price is right, I'd buy it.

cool
i sent a mail to the owner of the site....
i read on fc3s.org that the wiring harness needs to be altered to plug into my car....
is there anything else that needs to be modified on the j-spec engine to make it just bolt right in and plug right up???

I agree that 1 hour away is much better than 3-4 hours away.
Is that just a used engine, or a rebuilt engine? Checking on that site- wait, that says it is garanteed to run. Hmmm, but for 975$ that seems to be a pretty good deal, but if it runs for a week then pops, will they take a return? What is different between your TII and JDM engine that would make it worth 975$ for a used engine? (even though they promise these engines are low mileage and compression tested- seems like good engines). Good luck.

i knew it was coming.....the engine had 186k on it when i got it and ive put another 2k on it since....
it was coming, i was just hoping i would get a chance to save up first....
i was thinking about it.....if my turbo just crapped out would that cause this or is this for sure an engine problem...i havent really got a chance to look under the hood yet, but it was smoking from the passenger side back of the engine....right were the turbo was....

$1000 for a used engine (self-installed or plus labor) or $12-1400 for a rebuilt engine (self-installed or plus labor)?? I dont get it. Am I doing something wrong? .

Like the old redneck saying, you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink...

Must be a good mechanic. He upped the idle speed because he couldn't figure out why it dies when put in gear. Park is the only gear when the engine isn't engaged to the trans, so maybe that is why it has the highest idle- but I doubt it. Most idle problems on engines with proper tune are either sensor related, or a vacuum leak. Just turn the idle speed screw down a bit. It should idle around 750rpm.

.. and if i had access to a good tow dolly, I would try and help you with your seven shipping problem. But I don't have one.

peace, Bryan.

That would be me! Pulled, ported, painted and rebuilt in 3 days AND drove it home 500+ miles with no problems. Kevin is EXCELLENT. Give him a call as you can also pull your engine and he can get it picked up and shipped back to you pretty damned cheap--we discussed the great deals he gets on shipping.

Brealistic--I'm guessing you were the gentleman who picked up the first gen tranny from Mike's widebody FB?

Yup, that was me. Since my 174k mile tranny is getting a bit notchy, I thought having a 60k mile spare would be good insurance (nothing ever breaks if you already have the part to fix it, right). And please don't call me a 'gentleman', I feel old enough as it is.

I don't know where it is. Look at where the throttle cable connects to the intake. Also, a dirty Idle Air Control (IAC) valve would cause the engine to stall (a common problem)
