My Miata Short Shifter 2-25-06 Videos & Photos

My Miata Short Shifter
• I was bored so I created a video for myself, but I don't mind showing it.
• This is only a video & testing **** out. You can refer to this if you'd like, but I'd check this out for the write up by KARACK <- good guy
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/miata-short-throw-shifter-writeup-445801/

• This video was taken with a digital camera: Frames jump, so it looks weird.

Looks interesting the one thing I noticed when installing short shifters is they always tend to make it so damn hard to shift... plus for some reason after a little while they always make a wierd clicking sound when going into gear

If you just hack off a shifter and call it short yes it will be harder to shift but if you replace it with one that moves the fulcrum the shift feels about the same and be quicker. Just think of it as a lever. You hack off the end your tring to use and it becomes harder. but move the pivot point and things become easier and faster.

Yeah i dont think that iw ould mind the trouble in 5th and reverse but it does seem to be much stiffer. With a considerable amount of less throw too. Oh btw, nice plug of the roley! Thats just wrong man. lol

damn, i'm looking for my inner dust cover (again, after OEM brand new no more than 6months). wonder if this setup doesn't let tranny fluid leaks out.

PS: any more video about your short shifter?

yes there will be trouble in 5 and reverse but the bolts come with a flat washer and a lock washer in the kit and if you put your flat washer under the plate that is holding the shifter down and then put the lock washer on top of the plate and bolt it down then you wont have any troubles shifting.

I don't know where you can find those extra hardware.

..

What photos do you want to see, there's really nothing much

I have the stock here with its minor damage.
Like deep scratch, I don't know how this happened.

Here's the 2nd Video Clip just testing the Stock shifter
I noticed that it didn't play on my first try.

Here's the photos.
I will video the short shifter while driving during the day, it's too dark now.

P.S. Don't get distracted by my GF in the picture, she's just being silly.

Added new video and photos

This is just to freshen up this page.
video server is acting retarded.
Also attached the shifter without ***** and with 2 diff ***** after I finally got a **** donation and $8 to afford another one.

Just another day playing with my digital photo camera with video capability.
Excuse the quality and the jumpiness.

I had a lowered wood ball **** on my shortened stock lever.
It worked well until the rubber isolation sleeve in the lever crumbled.

With the solid steel short throw lever, I went back to the stock leather covered ****.
Missing 3rd has ceased to be a problem.

I just put that shifter in my car, and i see that you have the same problem as me-hard as crap to get into gear sometimes, especially 5th. In one of the videos it also looked like you used the bushing that came with the shifter, is that correct? I'm gonna put in all new mazda ones for the rx-7 and see if that helps.

Yeh, I used the bushing that came with the kit for the bottom part
and I used the original that came with the old shifter. the black piece for the top part. I actually have trouble shifting to 3rd, I just can't find it. but I will get used to it, it's just he matter of hitting her spot. It's like a little bump...

The shifter is a 2 piece. Unscrew the top part then put the shift **** on it.
It's really short.

i was just in someone's FC the other day with a miata short throw in it, and it feels great. 5th gear is surprisingly easy to get into also, considering in the video here.
only thing is there is a rattle to it, but that is not uncommon apparently.

LAN do you have any rattle? getting any easier to shift into 5th?

Coldfire. I don't get rattles anymore since I inserted the old bushing from the old shifter on top.
I didn't see it before coz im dumb like that. Shifting is actually easy now.

Wheter 5th or reverse. The only thing that I gotta get used to is 3rd gear.

It's so damn short that I'd shift to 5th. Other than that it's all good.

....Even when my FC is parked, i just go in to shift coz it feels good. yeh im crazy like that too. I LOVE FC3S.
