My Hazard lights did not work and I fixed the switch; maybe.

I have a May 1991 convertible. The hazard lights did not work and Icemark had told me that it was the CPU because the switch never fails. It turns out he was wrong but I followed his advice. I ended up overheating one of the transistors in the CPU while trying to desolder it. I assume the transistor for the hazards was bad so I cross referenced the transistors in the NTE catalog and 2 of the parts were wrong. I bought a new CPU and found that the blinkers worked and the hazards still did not operate. I gave up and let the car sit for 2 days. When I came home for lunch in my other car I saw that the hazard lights were on. I figured I left the button on and they started to work again for some reason. I found that I could not turn them off so I disconnected the CPU. Yesterday I reconnected the CPU and the turn signals worked but the hazard lights were off and would not turn on. I sat down with the FSM and check the CPU and found that the button would not turn off the voltage. I then check the switch and found that the button was good but that the circuit board in the switch had broken along one of the paths and pulled away from the board. I used a wire and made a jumper on the other side of the board. The turn signals and the hazard lights work. Now I just have to see if the car decides to turn the hazard lights on again by itself.

Icemark wrong? What's this world coming to!

The CPU is MUCH more likely to go bad, your case was just the oddball.

Icemark knows his stuff but I think my cars got him 3 times now. Unlucky, for me I guess.

I would never use the phrase, "never breaks" when it comes to anything on an RX-7! From what I have seen the Wankel engine is the most reliable thing on the car.
oddball = lemon My RX-Lemon is not a lemon because they are all built that way.

Whenever the JB Weld that is fixing the brittle plastic on the dash parts dries, I will put the switch back in and let you know when the thing acts up again.

I had the switch hooked-up all weekend and never found the Hazard lights to turn themselves on so I hope that means it is fixed.
