Reading the technical section and using the search button. All of your questions have been asked and answered before.
If you bought a turbo you are off to a good start. If you have an NA engine I hope you have about 5k to do a turbo swap and other needed parts to reach your goal.

You'll learn this down the road... But it's gonna cost you more to get those numbers from an N/A then if you just turbo'd. The turbo swap is gonna make it 100% times easier to get good numbers from a swap man.

I wouldn't bother with any horsepower mods right now on a car that cheap. Unless you got one heck of a deal, you are going to need to spend your money on reliability and safety items. For example, I just bought one for $1,000, and it needs about $3,500 worth of repairs in order to function well. Of course, as you work on the reliability and safety items you can upgrade accordingly. The only horsepower mods I would recommend are a high-flow exhaust when the current one needs replacing, and a high-flow air filter. Even if you port the engine during the next rebuild you are still looking at about 200-230 hp.
If you want 270 hp you should sell your car and buy a Turbo II. It simply isn't worth the time and trouble to convert the GXL into a turbo. Fortunately, the RX-7 is a good sports car even in stock form, so you don't really need to add anything to it in order to have a lot of fun.
Do you know how to inspect the car for safety concerns? I can help you out if you are a noob.

I was just going to say why not swap a 350 in there. Turbo swaps are spendy and 250 swaps are spendy but if you already have the engine thats a good start. Go to grannyspeedshop to find the swap parts. And probably go with a mustang drivetrain.

i would post pics but i don't have a camera right now my ex stole it when she moved out. i'm probably just gonna put the 350 in it now. i'm just gonna street strip it more then likely and keep the saleen as the daily driver. i've done a ton of odd swaps before so this won't be my first. i put a corvette ls1 in a miata last year.

Any FC in "show room condition" is an awesome car, if I had one like that I would keep it just like it was.
Why do you need 270hp? your willing to swap in a V8 but not a turbo motor??
"Hi! I just got a pristine GXL for my first FC and I'd like 300whp but don't want to turbo it. What? Can't be done? Okay how bout a V8?"

"Hi! I just got a $5,000 car for $550. I think I'm going to strip it into a junker and throw in a nasty old 350 that is collecting dust in my garage. Sure, I could sell the car, buy a similar roller for $300, and pocket thousands of dollars, but nah, I'm just gonna completely ruin my car just because I'm a shift mad quick yo rebel and have a totally unique idea. What, v8rx7forum.com? Never heard of it because I'm so unique."
or more like
"Hi! I just got a junker RX-7 and I want to make it fast. What, it takes skill, time, and/or money to do that? Dang, I don't want the forum geeks to know I'm a broke noob. I know, I will just pretend like I'm cool and throw out a bunch of car names to try and confuse them. If they ask for pictures I will just make up some lame excuse like my dog ate my camera. Yeah, that's it."

Congrats on new car, I'm always curious why people are quick to just jack up the horse power. Isnt reliability more important?
How much Miles/KM can you get out of that N/A Rotary engine.

This thread fails. I know, I know before someone tells me that he can do what he wants with his car ( I know this) Buy a Fbody! It is getting harder and harder to find these cars in good shape! You buy an RX7 because its a rotary and not because you can shoe horn in an LSx! argh! I hate this **** sometimes! I get screwed on buying a more expensive 7 not running and some one finds a "show room condition"7 for 1/4 of what I pay and they are talking in about a 350 in it. Damn Someone close this thread!

about 175-220k before a rebuild, for non turbos. when the engine goes i'll put something else in. or crush it and sent pieces of the cube to jerks like the ones above.
