My cleaner engine bay
Ok, I took your advice and cleaned it out some, is this better!? Oh btw, I finally redrilled/retapped and finished all my broken bolts under the car, I'm ordering an engine on monday, and away I go! And yeah, I know the bottom is rust, I'm working on that!

Yeah, I thought so too. It was EXTREMELY dirty and full of oil on the power steering rack. Me and Skippydog (scott) spent quite some time cleaning it up. Hopefully we'll have it finished soon! Had to fix a bracket on the bottom of the car near the front, the weld broke and it was hanging loose making my fender wobble back and forth. All fixed now, just need an engine!

Yeah, we didn't spend too long on it, it was cold and we sort of rushed through it. I thought it turned out amazingly nice for how little time we spent, and how horrible it looked previously!

Sorry for such large pictures, I'm to lazy to resize! It took me and skippydog about two hours or so. Removed PS/AC and working on removing other useless crap.

Those pics scare me!  You've got SIGNIFICANT corrision (past the primer) on the driver side sub frame - this is almost guarantee metal fatigue damage area, as this part of the car take some serious loads...

yeah, pondering how I'm going to go about fixing it. Seems like a lot of surface rust, might just grind/sand it down and spray it with some high temp rust proofer or something. We didn't need to get down to toothbrush level really, but it did take us quite some time to take things off and clean behind them. Also, my engine isn't taken apart, it's missing completely! I'm ordering a jspec to drop in it on monday, so as to how it will go putting that back I fear is going to not go so well!

Well I got the intake box & intake ducting cleaned - does that count
I'm still too scared to use anytihing but concentrate joy, but I did pick up some purple cleaning stuff and some aluminum wheel wheel polish for the intake & tmic.

Yo,
Felix, how many times have I told you?! You need to use q-tips. The 100% cotton tips don't scratch like the toothbrush! Man, you're going to have to start all over.
Vaughnc, I use McQuiers Car cleaner wax, and Zymol Cleaner wax. Seriously.

Yeah I was using cleaner wax too, worked out nicely for a while, but some of the stuff was caked too much for it to take it off! Had to use either water or other things for those spots.

it was a pain in the ***! It's not like it was unbelievably difficult to get to the bolts, it's just mine were so rusted they all broke. The first thing to do is to try to remove all the plastic from underneath the front. The brake vents/etc. Then from there there should be a bunch of bolts near the front going in a line, and on top as well. Then from there, lie down under the car and look up through the side and you will see 3 nuts holding it to the fender, you can get a socket up there with an extension, but it will take some time for them to come off. Just be careful and don't brake them off like I did, and it should be easy.
