AMEN!!! if anyone here thinks 14s are fast you have never been around fast cars. there are way to many stock cars that run 14s bone stock for me to think that my car is fast when running a 14.8 with WAY to many mods. if you want to go on a track and run in the curves a na rx7 will do great! but if you are doing 1/4 na's are just to blasted slow without some serious engine work. and yes there are many na's that are comparable with STOCK t2's, but those na's have a lot of mods. spend the same amount of money you did on that na on a t2 adn you'll have a truely fast car. im sorry folks, but i have yet to actulay see any na bone stock rx7 run better than a 17.1. now i know that some peopel have gotten better than that stock, but i have yet to hear of any bone stock rx7 runn better than 16s. shoot, most hondas can run that, stock. and thats not even si's. make a run against just about any honda and it will be a good run for the stock na rx7. i have seen 3 rx7s run at the track that were stock and all three ran low17's. that is SLOW!! slow, slow, slow. that is not quick, it is SLOW. if you think otherwise, then thats fine. if you think your car is fast thats just fine. but in actuality, your car is not fast. but, if you never race your car, or take it to the track then you dont have to worry about your car being "slow" or "fast" now do you

I live in SLC UT. If you want me to make a look, I could check it out. There are a few of us in SLC Rotary club that could look at it. Come to here and come to a meeting.

Here is my two cents....

I think that maybe it could be factors such as where you engaging the clutch on the tach. Ideally you need to be dumping about 3k to 4k. Rotaries love the high revs!

Also it could be the shifting, are you shifting slow or trying to find gears? How many miles on your car?

Is your clutch old? It could be slipping more if it is too old.
With your mods you should be running neck and neck. Those v-techs aren't real hot in the low revs but they are nice in the high revs! Just like our cars. Your friend is probably winding his engine real tight and dumping the clutch! You should do the same.

A mid 90's Prelude V-Tec SHOULD beat you. They're faster than the new ones.

With CAI and straight exhaust they're probably around 203-207fwhp.

Get the right driver that launches high rpm near camlobe switchover; and keeps it there, and they're quick enuf...

Thumbs up

All this Bullshit about N/As being slow.... My n/a has ran everthing up here i have come across by many car lengths.. 98' modded camaro z28s, porsches, turbo 300zxs, modded 5.0s new Gts u name it. My car has just about all boltons nothing else. Its all about launchin and shiftin and rpms. And everyoe iv'e raced has had automatics and iv'e raced the many times, so no flukes... I haves seen cars that should be runnin high 12's low 13's stock at the tracks run 15's and 16's. ok. thats the botton line.

I am on my 3rd RX-7, my first was a crazy 1st gen with a full Eribuni Body kit- flares and all. I had an 88 GXL, and I currently have a 90 GXL.
I have to admit the 88 GXL was slow. It was in PERFECT shape, bone stock. It ran perfectly, VERY smooth, no problems at all, but just kindof slow. It's all about the whole package of the car. The way it all comes together as each component of the car performs at it's own peak. Give that car 75 more HP and it would be overpowering the drivetrain and suspension. Beef up the drivetrain and suspension and you loose some of the agility and soul of the car- It's all about the final sum of the part- not the induvidual values.
My 90 is a different story- stock it is pretty fun, lots more guts than the 88, but not exactly a hard charging speed demon. Once I opened it up with the porting, blah blah (check my sig for a few of em) It really turned into a fast car! Still got to keep the RPM's up to be in the powerband though.
Oh, and about that 'tard that was calling all N/A's slow early in the post- I've worked very hard on my car, and I've smoked every TII I've come against. I'll race him any time, and I won't drive back home with a blown engine. He probably just bought a fast car to try and compensate for lacking in another department...
Happy Holidays.

N/A RX-7 w/bolt-ons beating a '98 modded Z-28?

Something wrong with this picture...

I have beet the z28s. 4 different porches, numerous hondas ( all modded), I jsut can't beat the modded tubos and nos. I have no poting done, estensive lightening, just about all the bolt ons. working on porting the intake, and removing the MAF. then a new puter, elevtric water pump, change the MSD to Jacobs Pro, Tehn I might think about porting and mabey even NOS.
I will bet when I am done I will beat even most modded tIIs. it is all about repose time and turbos can't hang with n/a's when it comes to response to throttle input.
I am not just talking smack I have seen very fast n/a's.
I saw a modded n/a Camero V6 beat a 300z TT. I don't know if the z had troble I just watched the race. That is saying a lot from me I never say good things about bowties.

I just wish more people would dyno there cars. I say anything under 180hp is slow. Anything above 180 is peppy. 220-250 is quick. 300 is quicker, but still not enough. 450hp is just about right.

I can't tell you how many turbo cars i beat in my old n/a 13b. (Blake now has it in a FB, for the 2002 challenge.) So what if i was shifting it at 11k rpms. So what if i ran a 13.9@109.27 with tire spin all the way into 3rd gear, without nitrous. (205/50/15s) Did i mention it was a 13B peripheral port engine?

My only regret of the time i owned the motor, was that i did'nt take it to the track with the nitrous. The 150shot would of put me probably in the 12s at 120. I don't know this for a fact or anything....but just a guess. CJ

If we're talking RX-7 weights, then I agree totally
