thanks.
last nite i put 5 miles on the car cruising around back streets here in town. thats the longest i drove this car. it ran good. some ignition break up, ill need to take care of that. this 7 dont smell near as bad as my first (2 stroke smell) which in my book is a good thing!!
heres what i still have left to do:
finish a little wiring
finish my duct work for the radiator
do some tuning
get it registered...hahahah!!
check for vac leaks better (i made this the other day to check http://www.boostpro.net/prodtester.html )
run a pipe from the wastegate to the DP.
get my rims powdercoated
install my kick *** stereo setup (vega 4 inch mid's crystal componets and a crystal 12 sub)
that just might be it!!!

thanks buddy. i had a few hiccups here and there...its hard around here when no one knows anything about standalone ECU's. relying on the internet isnt easy!@@
ive had great help fomr great people though. notice i took a shot of the QP we yanked on with nails!! hahaha....turned out great IMO. that was one of the best ideas!
right now im searching for a dump tube to quiet that damn leaking wastegate.
i been working on getting it to start better also. im getting the hang of tuning the haltech. not so bad once you figure out what your doing.
i should have some updates this weekend. im HOPING it'll be on the road next week or the following....

i made more progress yesterday.
i used some door seal insulation between the RAD. and hood latch and a few other places to seal off unwanted air gaps. then i cut out my rad shroud to fit over the IC pipes. i ran out of daylight so it still needs SOME trimming. i didnt have time to snap a couple pics but if/when it stops raining i will. after this me and a friend took it for a nice ride. we put 50 miles on it while i straightend out the MAP and got it running better. i moved the CAS wire which helped ALOT and got rid of the hesitation. i can already tell this car is ready to boost very EASY. i had to YELL at my friend a few times for getting on it to much. i then drove it and felt why he had so much trouble keeping the car in vaccum. a 4 inch DP with my IC setup really makes a difference compared to my last GHETTO setup (my old 6 port turbo).

Nice thread man. Subscribed!

Is it just me or does almost every black rx7 seem like the doors are off from the rest of the car? Mines the same, on both sides.

thanks. the drivers side is off. for the life of me i cannot get it lined properly...my other 7's doors were so perfect you could shut the doors with 1 finger. this one just wont line up right. the passenger side isnt so bad though.

I just read this entire thread! Great work on this car. It went from rags to riches! You are a good story teller too. When I read that you were gonna have to sell the car I was worried there for a bit, until I read you could keep it. This thread was a great way to kill a day at work, that I didn't feel like working! Keep it up! You should bring it down to Columbia MD for a Fuddruckers meet! I would defiantly like to see this baby purr!

hey thanks! its great to read that people like the work ive done to this car. it really has come a long way....
lately ive been getting little things out of the way:
getting the driver side window working and replaced
cleaning and greasing the tracks so they work half way decent
finish cutting the rad shroud so it looks decent
gonna solder a new relay in the wiper switch so it works normal
finish installing ALL the interior
most of this should be done by the end of the weekend and ill post pics of the progress....
i cant do any tuning since i dropped my damn laptop on the ground breaking the DC socket off....
im hoping the PC repair guy can fix it without killing the motherboard....
ALL my info is on that laptop!!!

ok.........
laptop is back and was SAVED. i got the car firing in 3 revolutions or less....makes me happy!!
i havent taken many pics since it just little things i was finishing up...
IE:
greasing doors, windows,sunroof....aligning the driver side door better. i can actually shut it without slamming it now. i been running into small problems here and there. today i got the BAC wired up to the haltech....tried to start the car and the fuel pump wouldnt prime. SOOOO, i had to chek the resistance from the relay to the pump itself. turned out i forgot to use dielectric grease on the soldering parts and it corroded so fast (turn green) along with the rest of the CHEAP wire i used. i replaced it with some good HEAVY insulated wire and it fired right up again. i also ordered my dumptube and should have it by next weekend along with some header wrap. once i start i put some pics up.
here is a pic of the engine i been cleaning up. its taking me so long since i dont have much time anymore to do it. couple hours here and there and thats it. wiring to make it look CLEAN isnt easy!!! its coming slowly but i still have work left to do!!

Hey I'm very new to cars in general so I had few easy questions that I'm sure most of you guys can answer:

1. How hard is it to get to a paint booth?
2. How expensive is a paint booth to use?
3. Wiring and all those, wasn't it hard to learn all of it?
4. How long did it take to learn all those?
5. How would I learn about body works and techniques for it?
6. How would I learn about interior work and the techs for it?

thanks. im curious as to how i helped??
also, looking at my bay pic i just put up. ive noticed a big difference on the left side of the bay. i spent an afternoon re-looming so it would look better...now i need to do the right side and behind the motor on the fire wall and get me a FD polished ALT!!
also. i noticed today my upper rad hose is swelling near the filler neck on the water pump. guess i better order me some new ones!!!
i been wanting the red ones anyhow!!

i still never finished cutting my RAD shroud either....

You helped a lot actually, take a look at the link in my signature. Some of the hood corrections I made due to the pic you posted without the attachment on it for the intercooler I believe...

The different parts you have set up are the best resource I could ever hope for in terms of my 3D Model.

I love it, completely fell in love with it with the build and how you've documented it. Can't wait to get in on mine.

thanks, and im glad i could help 1MZFE.
today i recieved my final parts for my exhaust. i bought the thermo tec header wrap, thermo tec HI-HEAT coating, and the fasteners and a piece of SS pipe for the dump tube....
heres a pic of it all with my buddy gander. for some reason he was fascinated by this stuff!?!

heres where i will be working this weekend....you might be able to see some oil thats been leaking. for some damn reaosn i cant get the STOCK oil sender for the gauge to quit leaking. i should just use some teflon tape since i dont need the gauge....
you can also see the wastegate barely touching the downpipe. 4 inch DP and a 46MM wastegate doesnt leave much room here. it will all be fixed HOPEFULLY sunday nite.

and i cant forget the infamous oil pan leak!! for the life of me i can never get one to NOT leak!!! i even used RTV/gasket/RTV and its still leaking!

last nite i was able to tack weld my dump tube in place. it took FOREVER to get the angle right. at first i couldnt figure out a way how to get the right angle and not mess up the pipe.then i figured out using the left over piece i cut off i could get the angle needed and if i messed it up i had another. after messing with it for a while i got it. i then decided to just cut the tube shorter and attach the 2 pipes together. BAM!!

then i had the fun task off taking off the exhaust with thunder and lightning in the next valley just CREEPING its way towards me.talk about a race against the clock!!! for some damn reason i had to use a hammer and screwdriver between the turbo and DP because it was litterly stuck on?? i managed to get it off with out bending anything and ran into the shed right when the storm hit so thats where i stopped. im currently going in and out welding right now so i should have some more pics tonite....

and dont expect great welds...if you seen my others on here you know how its gonna be.... but it'll hold

the exhaust was welded and put back on only to find leaks all over hell. i decided to buy a flex tube for the dump tube to take some stress off the rest of the exhaust. somehow its not letting me seal it all up well. having a little "forgiveness" on it should allow me to get it sealed properly. im still having problems with my wastegate leaking also. the valve seat on the inlet wont seal to the valve....UGH
1 problem after another.....we will see what i can get done this weekend. im gonna try and devote a full day on the car and finish it up so i can get this beast on the rode finally....

I was gonna say...

Almost everyone will recommend a flex section because that part of the exhaust tends to expand / contract a lot due to the WG not flowing all the time.
When the WG is closed, there is no exhaust flow.
When the WG opens, things heat up pretty quick.
Now think about how much the WG cycles...
This will quickly warp pipes and crack welds.

^^^
thanks for the advice ted.
i got the flex pipe in welded up and the exhaust is installed. i think i still have a exhaust leak somewhere before the turbo but i cant track it down for the life of me. ive sprayed it right on start up with soapy water, blocked off the exhaust tip and even stuck my hand in there trying to feel for the leak with no avail. im still going to get it registered this week and get some miles on this car.
