Is My Baby Dead????

ok i finally got my piece started but now that **** is all fucked up. its idling wierd as hell and white smoke is coming outta it like no other. i pretty much have to hold the gas down to keep it running. and sometimes it still cuts off. i like didnt even rev past 1500 rpm. so most likely i have a what? there is gas still in the oil. do u think the engine is totally gone? its a 87 turbo II with 167,000 miles. how much compression is needed for it just to start up. is there any life left in this thing?? thanks

Sounds like you need to bring it up to east TN to let me straighten it out. I just bought myself a nice 87 t2 to fix up too.

Born, raised, and always have been an east tn redneck(not actually, but...).

My t2 is an 87, 136k, black ext. gray interior, cd, door speakers(stock), PERFECT interior, 90% exterior, bone stock, just needed injectors to be installed(PO removed them for cleaning but never sent them off) along with the rest of the manifold, plus a blown oil cooler line(which I have plenty of). All this for the low price of $1300. How 'bout you? I plan to have mine running tomorrow night or so.

You might not need an engine, btw. My friend bought a 10th anny from a guy in dallas, who was a rotary enthusiast too. THe car has 73k original miles, and they said it sat and had a stuck seal and would need an engine, and was bought on such premise. It took me 2 days and it runs about 10psi now idles steady 800rpm starts everytime.

Sonicrat, relas man, Ive been busy/gone pretty much all weekend and havent had time to check the sunroof yet. Ill try todo it early tomorrow afternoon. Sorry but Im a slow *** :-)

Well, when he got his 10th, it just sat and cranked. Wouldnt really even try to start. I made some adjustments, changed some parts, and it turned out to be a fuel problem. IF you can run a compression test to determine the block has all 6 seals making compression then you have a platform to work with(what I did first). IF you dont have a compression tester, do the poor man's test:

remove both lower plugs, have a good strong battery, and have a friend crank while flooring the gas(fuses for spark and fuel removed under engine, 2 closest to engine), and listen for 6 repetitive, even, non-skipping blasts of air,. You can even use your hand in front of the holes to feel each one. There should be one whoosh, per hole, per rotation of the crank.

You can get some carb cleaner at a local gas station, and let the car idle(if it will) and randomly spray ammounts around the hoses, if the idle increases when you spray at a hose, then you have a leak, if not, then it might be a seal. Do the poor mans compression check if you have to
