Is my alternator big enough?

Perhaps a thread starter? As I mentioned earlier, my s4 Alternator too had to be replaced more than once. People upgrade their Alternators all the time. However, I do notice the majority of FD Alternators I sold happen to have went to s4 owners, like 85%. I know It's for obvious reasons. I consider a modification to be one that has an overall effect to your car and that Is what a FD Alternator will do for you, whether you are applying a ton of load on It or not. Right from your Heater/AC to brightness of the Headlights - the FD Alternator holds true to It's output.
Before I forget - 1987rx7guy, the FD Alternator that you speculated that didn't work, I'll be sending It back tomorrow. We found absolutely nothing wrong with It!!! I devoted a half an hour to having your FD Alternator running on the machine awhile I stood next to my guy convincing him that It Is a faulty one you received. The end result Is I upset my guy and you have a fully functionable FD Alternator. At Idle, with no load, you are getting 13.8-13.8 Volts. With a full load, at 4000rpms, you are getting over 15 Volts at 116 Ampheres. You've got to understand that he was simulating a real life event with this machine. Thus, these are applicable numbers, respectively. These diodes you spoke of, 4 positive and 4 negative In total, were verified to work as they were designed to be. Should even one go bad, you will be lucky to generate 0.5 ampheres. Your sources, that suggest otherwise don't know a damn thing about Alternators, or/and these ones for that matter.
I could have PM'd you but I thought It would be worthwhile to address this to the masses as you so blatantly did with me.

Umm ok. Well I have some people to run over when I install the alt back on. they made me and you waiste money for nothing. Again I truely beleived something was incorrect with it but if your guy tested it ok and the diodes are fine then cool. I can't wait to have it back. The one thing I didn't do was replace my stock guage. I should have. That is probably my problem.
Anyways all in all I thank you Tony for dealing with the issue even though there was no realy problem. I will have to dismantle my car and figure it out.
Santiago
PS- I stll vote for an alt upgrade.

Good. I meant to say 13.8-13.9 Volts at Idle Is what your FD Alternator Is generating not b'n 13.8-13.8.
In any regard, I'd like to know why you told me that the Diodes were no good. How was this verified? You see, I guess I feel undermined and second guessed when this Is for one, not true and secondly, the neccessary precautionary tests I make to have a FD Alternator sent In top notch order Is deemed to be a dud. Finally, the blown up 3 threads you created to support your claims Is what really bothered me the most.

The stas are just a rough guess, but I am willing to bet I am in the ballpark. My point was that people run after market stereo systems in these cars by the 10's of thousands without upgrading the alternators. There is NO way in hell that his listed stereo system is going to be CLOSE to a 30A constant draw on his system. You my friend have been hitting the pipe with the others.

In reality his system could draw anywhere between 1 and 50 amps easily, it depends on how it's wired, how efficient (I doubt he has type d or x amps with that low of output). I am also going to guess the amps are around 60% efficient, it also depends on volume/gain settings.
just a little fyi, amps are most efficient at peak volumes, and extremely inneficient at mid to low volumes.
so even if he doesn't crank his system, he's probaly going to pull a good 30 amps.
take a look at the back of an amp, most have a few inline fuses built into them, take the value of the fuses and add them up, you can expect slightly below this number for constant current draw (momentary peak draw easily jumps above this)
edit:
oh yeah, I vote: stay with the current alt unless you see any problems, unless this is a progressive job, or you are worried about reliability. It's up to you.

I dunno where u guys got s4 alternators from, but yeah, mine's an s5....although i've heard s4 alternators tend to die a lot more often than s5's.....Mine recently died and was replaced about 2 months ago, it's freshly rebuilt, I was just wondering if it will handle the load as in operate normally without dimming lights or anything like that because dimming lights would really annoy me and other people, hehe....
anyways, thanks for the opinions guys, i'll know tomorrow whether it's completely fine or not

I did a search to find additional pertaining Info on your Alternator. You said the first time around testing your FD Alternator, It came back good. The second time around, you said the diodes were bad. How did the 2 methods of testing your FD Alternator differ from each other? Or they didn't, just 2 different places?

1987RX7guy: What did I say I would do if you started this discussion again? Well, guess what is going to happen? As I mentioned before, you should discuss this with silverrotor via PMs.

I'm going out on a limb here but Aaron and you established your own arrangements. This should be no different. You held no regard to your actions, created 3 threads that were way out of line - and than to ultimately find out your FD Alternator Kit checked out A+++. As you could have PM'd me from the very beginning, I could have done the same. Oh well.

You see Santiago, the deal goes like this. I make every effort to ensure that a buyer Is receiving a top notch FD Alternator Kit. I come to the forum and I see heaps of posts on why the FD Alternator Is not performing up to your given task. I suggested from the very beginning I'll either refund your money or I'll assess It, correct It and ship It back to you. But that wasn't enough for you.
Loads of threads followed eventually diminishing every thing I stand behind. The problem Is your lack of listening skills and your poor style of follow up when Instruction Is given.
How can I not be upset with all the crap you started. This goes way beyond all the posts. Addressing our PM's on the forum, wtf? Not listening to me from the beginning?
You f***ed man. Big time. Now face the consequences...
