My 1/8 times...

Don't know if it should be in here, lounge or whatever...sorry

Last night I went to the drag strip to test and tune my car. Don't flame me because my car is slower than what a n/a should ACTUALLY run.

Steve Fooshee and I went, and looking at my times - we had come to the conclusion that my cats are clogged and my 6 ports are not working as well. Probably not opening up all the way. That will change in December when I put a header, striaight pipe and 2.5" piping on (Or so I hope!)

Anyway, times.

I only launched at the green light is because I wasn't really *racing* against the other car, but tuning for my car, and mine alone.

Since it was my first time ever going to the drag strip and dragging the car, I didn't want to put much strain on the clutch and car. So, I waited until the green light hit - the one with my fastest time, I think I went after the 2nd yellow light flashed.

I was launching between 2k-2500rpm..just because if I did any type of damage, that wouldn't be good.

go to the other forum and look at the drag racing section Jims5543 and i posted alot of usefull racing tips up. you wont hurt to much launching at 5k once in a while now if you constantly do it it will burn your cluch i just recently blew my clutch racing a Civic Si i collapsed my pressure plate. and that was the stock one that came from the dealership. 130k on stock pressure plate. i also blew my throw out bearing and pilot bearing but atleast i won thats the important thing here is that i won

Well, if I can think of what Steve Fooshee told me last night what will happen - if I launch incorrectly... it will damage the car.

It has something to do with the nose not able to hit the ground, and that can snap or something I dunno. i know what it'll do when it breaks, I just can't think of what it is called.

I just want to know.. is that really what's wrong ? The clogged cats and 6 ports? Reasons being why it's slow out on the street and doing other things (so what he put it as).

breaking something with the nose???? WTF? i think he is thinkin about a FWD car we have RWD the only thing you will **** up is you clutch and that is if you do it ALL THE TIME but if you do it like 2-3 times you will be fine. if you hallow out your cats you will notice a diffrence and you can shoot flames to i dont know whats going on with your 5th and 6th ports

No... he knows what he's talking about, infact he owns an RX7 just like his roommates (Brian Smith, Dale Clark)...if I can think of the stupid name of it, I won't make myself look like a complete idiot.

But, i know there's something will break something in the car...if you launch it too hard and not correctly.

damn nitro sounds like something is wrong with your car. i ran a 10.8 and i have NO mods. i took out my intake. i am getting a custom exhaust, rb header, apexi power intake. but i am not putting them on i want to save my $ and get a nice porte rebuild. i am building a streetported TII motor in my friends garage (i cant keep it in mine cause i live in a bad neighborhood) but i am building that for when i find a Nice body on a S5 TII with a blown motor. i am building it all up. new rotors, housings ect. its my secret project. thats another reason i keep it there is because i dont want anyone else to see the motor

ummm you can get 60FT's of 2.00 or below anything above that is not good......

to get a good time you HAVE to get a good launch and good 60 FT..... you need lots more practice

Yeah.. if you launch too hard youll do two things:
1) fry your clutch if you do it a lot.
2) make some smoke (tire spin).

and that 2.00 60ft or below = good.. Yeah it is. But in a torqueless car like ours, or a honda... Not likely. 2.2 or faster is decent for us on street tires.

Just launch at a higher rpm, you arent driving a viper here

Well if you don't want to rev it up you really don't need to be dragging a 7. They NEED to be revved up. I honestly have never heard of a 3.xx 60' time. You should not have to be afraid of breaking something in an rx7. They are a sports car, rwd and all Just try holding the rpms to like 4500 and ease off the clutch for a split second then floor it.

a long time ago before i knew what i was doing drag racing i got 2.2 60 FT's in my N/A 89 GTU.... if i drove it now i would easily get 1.9X 60 FT! its about practice and launch technique. i have a stack of about 50+ runs from my TII. i had tons of practice!! i was VERY consistent too.....

You will break the front differential mount if you get wheelhop off the line. Been there, done that.
