My $15 dollar black plastic for the interior - Product Review: Dupilicolor Vinyl Dye
#76
wonko i tried it. someone mistook my gxl interior for t2. words of advice.. use a heavy solvent to remove all that armor all built up over the years. next use a mild abraisive like steel wool to scuff the surface, or vinyl will peel quickly. next advice. like painting, use a thin basecoat, you want it to bond to the part, not form a coating. works great on pill rug, works bad on velour. makes it spikey.

Since I had two people ask me about this thread, due to the recent "How hard is it to go from S4 to S5 Interior?", I realized that the pictures from the front pages now longer show up. Unfortunately, when I switched domains, and went to my own server, I must have mis-placed those pics, cause I can't find any right now, so I took some new ones. This is what my interior looks like more than a year after I sprayed it with the vinyl dye.
The only thing that really got beat up is the door runners, but there was a recomendation by someone to use truck bed paint, which sounds like a good idea. The rest is still really nice, and I'm still very happy with it. I haven't had a chance to do the bins yet, but i will eventually. I think I have all of the rest of the car done, though. I like the Black/Grey combo, so I probably won't chagne it, I'll just get better grey carpeting (The deal that I talked about on the first page fell through). Also, don't pick on me too hard about the key cylinder surround not being on there.. I'm currently modding it so my push button for my start will be in the stock key location. I've inlcuded one cramped engine bay shot, so you can all make fun of me for that
For my roof, I went to a fabric supply store, and they sell the fabric-coated foam that they used for our roofs, so got a bunch of it for cheap (since I bought the last of the black roll). I just glued it over the other stuff, since it was a pain in the *** to get off.. In Hindsight, I guess I should have pulled the other stuff completely off the cardboard, as it pops out around the edges a bit, but its not too bad.
Also, Ignore any panels are aren't secured down yet, I'm still getting the interior back together after rewiring the car from the MegaSquirt.
*edit* The spot on the drivers side door is a big grease/oil spot that was cleaned. Its not actually visibly worn there, and its very hard to see under normal lighting. I'm trying to figure out why its so contrasted in the picture

Nope, the speakers under the dash are Audiobahn 6.5". I honestly don't know what came on the S5s, 'cause I have an S4.. I THINK it was 4" speakers under the dash, stock, but I was able to make these fit pretty smooth, and they power the audiobahn tweeters that I put on the stereo surround.
I'm not quite sure, but I think it was only the s5s and 10AE that came with black interiors.

And are those speaker locations stock?

ok i read page 1 - vinyl dye. interesting. any idea how this would work going from Burgundy to Black? Grey to Black isn't all that much of a change (it is, I know, but it is just darkening the grey pretty much, no? where as burgundy is a TOTAL color change, may take more coats).
Hmm. Can you post the pictures from Page 1 as well?
