Which mufflers to get w/ dual exhaust header?
Ok.
Here is the idea. I am going to get the RB dual exhaust manifold (the one the takes care of the 6-port problem).
I don't think I will run any cats in the system, don't have them now and it isn't overly bad. Think with a new set of plugs/wires and some tuning I will eliminate the slight gas smell at idle.
Which mufflers are you guys using or recommend? I am looking for a deep sound at low rpms but something that will scream when redlined. I don't want the Honda buzzing that most of the Civics have going for them. I will sacrifice a little performance, little mind you, for a drastically quieter setup.
I live in a college town and the police will try to bust you for anything. I want an exhaust that will shut up when I upshift near the cops, but add some serious performance increases.
What you think?

I would love to hear some of these aftermarket setups in action, but no one near me has a 2nd Gen RX. My friend has the Racing Beat dual exhaust setup on his 1st gen and it sounds great. Quiet and deep.
That is why I am seriously considering the RB mufflers as well, but I haven't had the chance to hear any of them.
Anyone in the Grand Rapids area or the Bay City/Saginaw/Midland areas, drop me a line and we can get together. I will be in both areas within the next week.
I can only have 3" tips on the mufflers, the Bomex kit has 3.5" openings in the rear for the tips, don't want to cram the exhaust in there and have it damage the bumper.

I have the Walker Dynomax system on mine. Cheap ($165) but well built. The pipes are 2 1/4" at the Y, with 2" to each muffler. The mufflers are fiberglass filled, and I have read that this type of packing can overheat easily and break down. I have had no such problems, and have had the system on the car uver a year now. The sound is nice and mellow, until you step on it. It does get a little drony at highway speeds, though. I have the 2-into-1 RB header and a single 2 1/4" cat, but it will bolt up to the stock cat pipe.

I don't care so much about the price, unless we start talking $500+ per muffler. I am trying to find decent mufflers for about $200 a piece and the header.
A buddy is hooking my up with the piping in between the header and mufflers. He works at muffler shop and can bend the pipes anyway I want and at any size up to 3.5" for the whole length of it.
I am thinking this:
RB dual exhaust header
2.5" pipes to each muffler
RB? mufflers w/ 3" tips
I am leaning toward the RB mufflers because I have heard similar ones and I liked the sound. Deep on the low, screaming on the upper end of the tach

check out this system
this is the system that i am runnin on my 86 n/a it is the mazdatrix/HKS system it has a nice low sound at idle and a very deep sound under WTO but should be what you are looking for it uses the RB daul header and 2-presilancers and 2- HKS muffler.
if you have a buddy that works at a muffler shop he could supply and bend the pipes and all you would have to buy is the presilancers and mufflers you would be real close to your budget of $500.00 but it is the best system for a n/a,also there is a sound clip at this link:http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-ex86nt.htm
check it out, if you have any ?'s p.m. me.
