It's under How To, Electrical. The Crane HI-6.. but I can't find it for less than $200
If this little thing can get me 3 MPG better than I have now I think it's my next mod.

I called Crane and they say NOT to use the HI-6. When I talked to the tech rep at MSD, they said to use the 6-AL. I need RETed's expertise on this one.

the 6AL and the 6A are basically the same box i believe, except the AL has a rev limiter that makes it cost more that you wouldnt need anyway. is there another reason to go with the 6AL that i am not aware of? and would just one MSD box work fine on the leading coil with no other ignition parts added besides efi wires? i really dont want to buy 3 msd boxes if its not gonna be much better than one, and i have good experiences with the 6A on other cars. oh and do they work ok with standard rx7 coils or what? i have used blaster coils on other cars cuz they say with certain older cars the boxes can fry your stock coils.

That's the simple explanation.
The FC fires an inconsistent leading spark, especially at L2 channel.  The CDI box makes they all fire properly.  Boosted engines need all the help they can get when it comes to ignition.  A lot of stock coil rotaries show a characteristic ignition break-up at the top end on a dyno run - the CDI box pretty much eliminates that.  Idle is usually smoother with throttle response significantly increased.  It feels like a lightened flywheel.
The Jacobs is just another CDI box.  There is nothing fancy about it.  Run a Jacobs versus an MSD 6A or Crane Cams HI-6 on the dyno, and you get practically no difference.  Jacobs is too much hype.

does it make a difference if you just run 1 msd box since it will only be firing the 2 leading plugs? basically...does having all 4 firing through a CDI make enough of a difference to justify running more than one msd box? and do the stock coils hold up ok with a CDI box installed?

And, yeah, what about running 2 boxes?

If you want box for the trailings, run a DIS 2 box on it, or run a DIS 4 box on all of the coils.
Its not really worth the extra CDI price for the rears. You have to be making some SERIOUS horsepower before it becomes worthwhile (its more a way to prevent detonation I believe).
This is just my understanding anyway.

MSD makes an motorcycle coil you could use for the leading coil set if you NEED to upgrade, and then you could run a pair of blaster coils for the trailing.
But again, you'll see little to no gains. Stock ignition is actually very good.

So, are the stock coils pretty strong? Thats what I seem to hear and nobody I know has ever replaced them.
Thanks for all the info guys
