im thinking about doing the same thing...if i do though...should i run the stock size piping, or go a little bigger and adapt it just in case i want to get a new IC later? with a real FMIC will the small pipe still be sufficient?

Hmm, has anyone done a DIY on the TMIC->FMIC conversion. I'm interested since I just did a TII swap, and I can't find a damn TII hood anywhere. And I swear to god if somebody puts up a link to the $500 CF hood at Speedmachine I will kill. (Now I know someone will). I have money issues as well, so this may work.

I'm pretty much with djmtsu, we just did a turbo II swap to an '89 GTU. It started off as a 1500 dollar project, where up to around 2500 now. We've done soo much to the car though. Not just an engine swap. *its very close to being street runnable again all is left is a BOV and to weld in the exhaust* one thing we considered though, the stock TMIC and a non-turbo hood dont agree. The thing becomes an inter-heater, acually killing horsepower down from stock. So we are going to front mount the stock IC.

yeah 17lbs on the stock turbo, I say its over spun and smoked. Also I would set you car up to boost to 10lbs because that will creep to 13-14lbs and thats on the border line of destroying your motor. Also if your turbo died then metal shards are in your intercooler or in your motor. Either way I would trash that stock intercooler and change your oil now. Because you could be buying a new motor by the end of the week if you don't.
