not really a mod or my doing but I should of been more cautious when buying my last Rx-7. The PO thought he was some sort of electrical engineer.... I have been trying to work out the bugs ever since.

My biggest regret was converting an n/a automatic to a T2 5 speed. Not because of spending too much cash to fully complete the conversion with an LSD diff and custom auto to manual tranny brackets. But because I bought a JDM S5 TII engine/tranny/ecu/wireing harness all together and THEN realized that the wireing harness was for a RHD vehicle not LHD. The JDM shop sold me the complete kit and gave me a 30 day guarantee and 4 months after purchase I did a compression test and then I realized I got screwed. He sold me an engine with no apex seals in the 2nd rotor.
So in the end, doing the conversion is not my biggest regret it's buying an engine from a JDM shop. **** YOU ENGINE LAND!

my 87 gxl had the 5/6 ports wired open from previous owner. i never messed with them. It was such a dog under 4k.
To this day, I wonder how much better the car would have run if the 5/6 ports were operational...

changing my chassis harness
the kid who owned my fc before me rigged it for a alarm system
and when i changed the doors to gxl doors windows wouldnt work
and then i changed it and stupid chassis harness came loose from the fire wall i didnt tighten the bolt enough so it got stuck with the throttle cable and burned out my clutch
and right now only 1 window works and my fogs dont work and my a'c is messed up
i regret not buying a gxl lol
but idk i still stick it out with my fc

I'd have to say getting the body work done after i wrecked it and let it sit for 4 years. I should have just let it go. The engine went bye bye after a few months of driving and then I go to OK to buy a street ported motor off a guy who posted here and teamfc3s and it only got 900 on a fresh rebuild. Guy said some local rotary mechanic built it, come to find out when he later admitted that he'd built it. Also bought a bunk jacobs rotary pack off a guy on teamfc3s. I hope the recent SAFCII I bought here isn't ****. Thinking back it seems I've had nothing but bad luck buying from guys on these forums

Just trying to be too ambitious on a small budget. Thats most of it.
The other one is not rebuilding my engine myself. Sure, it would have taken a lot longer, but not only would i have gotten the experience, but i would have saved myself some money, gotten all the tools necessary, and learned a lot.

TB mod depends, if you have a standalone, it doesn't degrade anything...
removed ac: depending on wear you live, AC is retarded, the AC in my daily driver is broken and I don't really care that much.
removed PS: seriously? my fiancée daily drives a car with no PS...

What's with all the hated TB mods? Did you not do them properly? rough idle, high idle, cold start probs (I live in FL so I might have that problem twice a year lol ) If it is done properly and your air mixture screw is adjusted and your TPS is re-adjusted after, I would imagine you wouldn't have all of these issues. What gives?

I hate the TB mod because people are very confused as to what it actually is. Originally it just referred to removing the secondary vacuum actuated throttles, but now it seems to mean pulling off the cold start cam, BAC (how this is part of the TB is anyone's guess), dashpot, etc. Essentially stripping the throttle body bare which has absolutely no benefit and just makes the car a pain to drive.
Why do people remove the BAC? It's crazy to do so.
Why do people pull off the cold start cam? It's crazy to do so.
Why do people remove the dashpot on a street car? It's crazy to do so.

Yeah I did the TB mod but only removed the secondary plates. Left the BAC, Cold Start, and Dashpot. Car drives very civil on the street. I need to get my BAC hooked back up and lower the idle cause it'll hover at 1k and then surge because of the street port.

Im getting ready to do the tb mod. I was wonderin the same thing why people feel the need to strip the extra components?!?! should work well with my f-con

Stereo. When I first got it I installed 2 subs, an amp, 4 speakers and the head unit. Now all I've got left is the 2 door speakers and the head unit. I enjoyed it at the time, but priorities shifted.

I was very happy with my NA's modded TB, but I left the thermowax assembly alone. I did remove the dashpot, (which I think is why the exhaust would "pop" on decel) but I feel it made for quicker upshifts. I also smoothed the TB inlet, profiled the throttle shafts, used countersink screws and profiled the leading edges of the butterflies. I don't know if it added much power, but throttle response was fantastic!
As far as regretted mods:
I bought a used exhaust system with a big honking Corksport single. It stayed on the car for the two weeks that it took me to get my hands on another dual catback. Driving with that exhaust is the only time in my life that noise has made me nauseous.
I installed a full polyurethane bushing kit on a DD. Everything was fine until I installed the front control arm bushings, then the road noise doubled.
When I installed my Fiero e-fan, I used a CarQuest fan controller. The controller crapped out at a hillclimb event, costing me a set of coolant seals. Speaking of which, does anyone know of a trustworthy controller, or do I need to make my own?

If you have a aftermarket ecu that can control the BAC, you can dump the thermowax and associated coolent line and use the BAC to control cold start idle.Have no idea why you would ever want to remove the dashpot though ,street car or not.

Happened to me on more than one occasion.
I haven't done any mods. More or less, i'm un-modding the bullshit the guy who had the car before me did.
They go as followed:
*Set screw shift **** half *** installed - fixed
*Cone filter intake - Replacment (stock box) is downstairs awaiting install thanx 2 my parts car
*Upside down afm.........
*air pump delete
*hi flow cat
*broken s5 swaybar endlink on an s4..... Replaced now with s4 link from parts car. Owner said a trailing arm was broken. ******* tard.....
*half-assed 7" lcd/av player install. Damn remote wire was linked into the parking light fuse....wtf...... Tape on all connections..... worked intermittently because of it.
*stripped interior - parts car interior broke as i removed it so now i have to make a custom radio surround, custom a pillars, custom hatch liner, custom head liner (se headliner wont work on my sunroof gxl and i refuse to take the time to mod it....*
*I'm not even going there with the steering wheel. Lets just say he removed the stocker, bolted a grant in without a hub and that explains in entirety why my signal switch never returned to rest position after a turn.....
*Reted UNPLUGGED THE TRAILING COILS FOR "MORE POWER".
Kills self
Actually, i wished i had held out, sold my dsm for $2500 and bought a legit TII. This gxl is a ******* hack job of a car. He said the motor was rebuilt and now i'm doubting that..... I'm asking him for recipts as i type this because this project has already cost me atleast 90 hours, $750, busted *** knuckles, bug bites...etc.....and i've only driven it TWICE!.

This is my first rx-7. And its a vert.
Didn't call in the car to the state patrol to see its history (it was stolen 9 year ago and never recovered)
Throwing away the trunk interior. Perfect.
Throwing away the massive amounts of spare interior parts that were with the car at the time of purchase.
Throwing away carpet because it was moldy.
Messing with my fuel system. Still need help with that. Chooses when to start... have to unplug the fuel pump (plug in trunk) start it. watch it die. plug it back in. start it again.
taking out my ftp lights.
List goes on as I contiue to learn... ugh.

I think you're running a Megasquirt, right? If so, you can pull the dashpot. The 'Squirt has a dashpot function in the idle control settings and can use the BAC as an electronic dashpot...
