More wiring problems with FC (headlights and horn)
So my headlights flip up ok, the parking lights, turn signals, even hazards all work fine. Basically everything is ok aside from the fact the headlights don't seem to be getting any power... all fuses appear to be fine, but where is the headlight relay located?
Second, my horn also refuses to work. I checked the grounding points to the push button on the steering wheel, however it didn't help.
If anyone has had any experiences like these i can't seem to figure them out.....
Lastly, the car has a leak in the exhast, do they have a tendency to blow exhast manifold gaskets? the pipe and flange seem solid, guess i'll have to pull the turbo off to find out...
thanks for the help,
brandon

Most likely the horn problem is caused by cold solder points in the ECU. Take it out and resolder all the points. I did this and fixed all horn problems as well as some other electrical problems. I also resoldered cold solder points in my warning light console.
As far as the headlights go...I would buy one new headlight and try it in both. If it works correctly in both..then your lights have just gone out and need to be replaced. If it still acts the same way...you know you have another problem. This is the fastest way to tell if it is the headlights or the relay or some other part. And BTW..the headlight relay on my car is all the way up in the front between the front bumper cover and the radiator. I have several relays there. Ive never seen a relay in a fuse box before. I have owned 3 7s and my dad had one also, and no relays were ever in the fuse box.

There is a Dimmer Relay located on the support for the radiator. It's the most inboard fuse, I think. The headlight relay is just outboard of the dimmer relay.
I'd just go to the Headlight Relay which is just outboard of the Dimmer Relay, and pull its plug off. Then put a meter on the Red wire and see if you have 12v. It should be there without turning the key or headlight sw to on.
If you have 12v, then put your meter on ohms and see if you get a ground on the white/blue wire when the headlights are put to ON. If you do get both, then go to the dimmer relay and check it out using the free, online fsm whose url is on this site.
By the way. The ground for the headlights is NOT located near the headlights. It's located on a ground buss under the trail coil assy. You might pull the headlight and see if your meter sees a constant ground on the Black wire on the headlight connector.

And I know a fellow who new a fellow who had a friend who owned some RX-7s, and he never saw a headlight relay in the engine fuse box either.
Now I have seen a headlight relay in the engine fuse box. I went out to the car, took the cover off the box and laid my spare headlight relay in the fuse box. So I can say with truthfullness, that I've seen a headlight relay in the engine bay fuse box. (slight humor)

ok Hailers....Im new to these forums and havent quite got down everyone's 'humor', so are you saying that you actually DO have a headlight relay in your fuse box that is actually hooked up and working, or did you really just make a mistake and try to make a joke out of it all? Cuz really, Ive NEVER seen a relay in the fuse box...only fuses.

I screwed the pooch. There is no relay in the engine bay fuse box.
There is a HEADLIGHT FUSE and a HEADLIGHT RELAY. The headlight fuse is in the engine bay fuse box. The headlight relay is the second most inboard relay on the frame that holds the radiator on. You'll see four or five relays in that area.
I'd check that fuse. Its location is shown on a thread called FAQ for FC. It is the first or second thread at the beginning of this second generation site. Go about halfway down and you'll see a picture of the fuse box incase you lost your fuse box cover.
There is a online downloadable factor service manual that you can access. Its url is in the FAQ thread mentioned above.
The horn relay is in the CPU. It is looking for a ground from the steering wheel mometary switch. No ground.....no sound. I trouble shot this once. I put a ground on the wire from the steering wheel to the CPU. The horn sounded, meaning the problem was in my steering wheel/wire/contact.
The headlight relay can be ID'd by its wire colors. Four wires. Two Red, one Red/Green, one White/Blue.
The Dimmer Relay has five wires. One RW, two RG, one RB and one White. And one empty hole.
That's for a series four.
