Exclamation Molded Carpets for 2+2

Ok.
I have been looking for a company that carries a molded carpet for the 2+2 7's.
This simple purchase is turning into a real task from all the companies that carry
ACC company. They are the most confused company i have ever seen when it comes to 7's!
First they say there is a difference in the floor pan from 86-87 and 88-91 and 92. (WHAT!?)

Also A difference in GXL and all other models! Again WHAT!?
Then they did not even know that there is a 2+2 on the market!

And to top it off depending on which distributor you talk to depends on there application....

SO!
Dose anyone have any idea what the skinny is on these? I need to replace my carpet, I don't want to pay someone 200$ for 1.5hr of work on carpet.

and any searches you try on "RX7 Carpet" is pointless! its all the same companies, same idiots. although the people at

Are extreamly nice & want to be helpful as possible.

If you want quality, stay away from VB. I bought carpet there for my 300ZX and returned it. Ended up ordering from the local auto upholstry shop, much much better.

I've bought carpet for a 1st gen from 1AAutomotive.com, seems pretty good, just a little thinner nap than stock. Don't know how they are for the 2nd gen 2+2'S.

If you find carpet for the 2+2, they often don't carry, or make the cargo piece. You might be better off looking local. They can order the molded carpet and matching roll carpet by the yard, then make the piece for the cargo area, if you need it.

I bought some floor mats directly from ACC (accmats.com). Their prices were a bit higher, but their shipping was so much less that I saved money in the end.

ACC dose not carry a carpet(Molded) for a 2+2 and the R&D team dosn't even know the difference in the carpets they make for the car! but they think the floor pan is different in GXL and all other models. and there is something different between 86-87, 88-89, 90-91. But they don't know what. but they are different prices, and they did not even know there was a back seat in any rx-7's.

I did not mean to afend you though

Was the 2+2 ever sold in North America? If not, it's hard to fault them for not knowing about it. You are probably going to be fine with any of these, but unfortunately, there's only going to be one way to find out. Since they don't have an exact match, ask them about the possibilty of returning it if it doesn't fit.

88 was the first year it was sold in america with the rear seat.

But they do not guarentee fitment on any of there seats, they are not even sure what they fit. depending on who you ask, depends on what each one will fit, and what they offer.

The floor pan is the same between the Coupes and the 2+2's. As for the difference between the SE's and GXL"s, my guess is the quality or thickness or type of nap.

Order the basic set for the coupe, without the rear cargo piece. Then measure the cargo area and the vertical piece between the floor and seats, at the front of the seats and order matching roll carpet. Use your old pieces for a pattern and bias the edges. If you have someone with a good sewing machine, this shouldn't be a problem. A commercial machine will work better, but this isn't any harder than sewing through 3 layers of new denim.

Btw, my 87 is a 2+2.

carpets for 2+2

I purchased a "molded" carpet set from Victoria British about 2 years ago for around $200 or so. I own a 91 rx7 and installed the backseat option so I wanted to make sure I found a carpet kit that covered the back of the rear seat and looked stock.

I had to call victoria british and see if any of their rx7 carpet kits had that rear carpet piece that would cover the back of the rear seat. They had to have one of their techs check on this and then call me back. They did have this carpet kit option. Even though this "2+2 carpet kit option" wasn't listed in their catalog, you might want to try calling them. The carpet kit was black.

There are no huge fitment problems in the floor pan area and all you need to do is cut out some slots for the seatbelt screws, seat screws and some other misc. items. The rear cargo area fits fine you just need to mount the carpet to the top of the rear seat using that long plastic piece that holds the carpet down and screws to the back, install the little vents in the carpet that are located near the spare tire and the install the 2 little swivel mounts that keep the back carpet up covering the spare tire if you want the oem look. This carpet has the heel pad as well.

When pulling out the stock carpet, also pull out the sound deadening foam if they aren't still attached. When the victoria british carpet is on top of the stock foam it didn't feel right to me. FYI: The back of the vb carpet has some thin grey foam which is supposed to help with sound deadening I am guessing.

The color of this carpet hasn't faded either.
Hope that helps

-John

Sounds good. but now i have someone telling me how VB is the worst co. in the world, and one telling me how great they are. for this reason I have put a poll in this thread. Perhaps it will help with decisions for more people than just me.
