Mixed Up Battery Cables in TN

Hello All.

Glad I found this resource and please excuse the dumb question as I begin to restore my 87 RX7 Turbo.

I'm confused about the Battery Connections and was hoping for some help.

Evidently there is a total of three connections to my battery and right now they are loose and puzzling.

I have one cable that appears to go to the main fuse box where I have a 80amp fuse (what does this control?)

I have two other heavier cables that run down into the motor. One appears to connect to the frame and the other goes to the starter.

Before I blow another fuse...I need some help on how to hook up these cables. Where do the two cables connect and which one is the ground?

Thanks.

The one that goes to your frame is obviously your ground. The other heavy one is your starter power supply. And last the one to your fuse box is power to the rest of your car.

Not the one...

Nope. I screwed up and let a place called Pro One Autoworks in Kingsport rob me of almost $5,000.

They bought me a new motor, waited almost 10 months before I got it back. When I got it back, the motor was never right, had a strange grinding sound from the beginning. The motor blew three weeks after I got it back, but the warranty was up and he was not a licensed service dealer. Had no way out but to eat it, so I'm starting from ground zero....

Here's how the battery wiring works, fresh in my mind from rebuilding the starting/charging harness -

The positive terminal has 2 wires going to it. The large wire goes directly to the main post on the starter. The smaller wire goes to the 80amp fuse in the main fuse block, then the other side of the fuse goes to the alternator. This wire has a splice in it after the fuse that goes to a 10 gauge or so wire with a black connector - that's the power going to the interior fuse block. The 80 amp fuse is protection for the alternator wiring, and that power line feeds all the other fuses in that fuse block.

The negative terminal has just one wire. It goes from the negative terminal to a chassis ground low on the driver's side shock tower. From there, the wire goes to one of the tranny to engine bolts for the engine ground.

Make sense?

Still thinking about it. I have some quirky feelings about bad kharma, but the more I think about it, the more pee'ed I've become.

Dale,

That makes sense. I guess I was getting confused by what was happening after the shock tower attachment. I'll give this a try later this afternoon.

I appreciate your time.
