Miror trim electrical short

Well the buss fuse in the miror part is blown. Now if I jumper this the fuse in the kick panel pops immediatly. I am trying to fix my sun roof :-/ I do know this used to work a few weeks ago the lights that is.

Now does anyone know of some comon short prone areas to look at? Or will this be a week of chasing a cat?

Doesn't the sunroof wiring come from the ignition switch? The blue and black wires.

Cool Ok here is what I got for you.

After a bunch of tests 7 fuses and a multi meter hehe.

This is the only wire coming into the bundle that carys 12v+

Now with that astablished. We look at the sunroof assembly switches
None of these wires cary a positive right now. Should they?

Well perhaps b/c the fuse is gone and if we jump it the dash fuse will blow.

Now that this is seen, would you agree that the swith is bad?

If I jumper these wires together the fuse in dash blows. I did this to test and find out how the sun roof buttons get power. There is only a 2 into 1 spade connector that comes out of the switches. This goes back into the harness and not the sun roof switches.

So concluding does this mean the light switch is bad? Or sun roof switch relay or something ells? If the light switch is bad it would have to be a ground b/c I can jumper the hot wire from the hot side of the buss fuse to the light prong and the light will come on. The switch will allso turn the lights on and off now.

Was all of this working before you started this...Also, are you testing this with the ignition switch in the on position? Do you have a copy of the wiring diagram?

I have tested it with and without the key to ON. All this was working last time I checked a feew weeks ago. I have replaced my faulti ignition switch and redid the push button starter I wire mine into my ignition wires. Now I moved onto the sun roof that never opend just motor grinded away. It seems I had nothing up there working. I checked fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and nothing worked still.

Oh yeah...now I remember...You have to have that mounted to the roof to test it...The body has to be grounded...Try mounting it and see if it works.

IF the motor was grinding then it was receiving voltage...The sunroof is know to get stuck like that...If you can get it working again and the motor starts to grind try pushing up on the back of the sunroof.

hmmmm...test to see it the sunroof works by supplying power directly to the motor...If it makes noise atleast you can say it's some part of the harness or switches are bad... Do any of the lights work?

The lights work fine now. The sun roof switch however does not. I checked them with a meter. Key ON and OFF. All wires that go to the buttons are grounding. Does the sun roof work by grounding off the connection? Where should I look now.

No, that wire is ground, and the eylet grounds the wire to the frame and body

Let us know what you find out when you test everyting...Also try to clean the switch contacts...you could if the motor work move down the line and try each thing out...try to jump the relays and see if they switch the motor on...if so then I would say the switch contacts might be bad...the green/orange wire is the hot...if it have power then try running it to the motor bypassing the switch...let us know how that comes out!
