I don't undeerstand why yours leaks. I've NEVER had one leak....must be that Canadian air.

Burns Stainless has some nice stuff, but it's all very expensive. And I would think the noise reduction factor is not quite what you're looking for.

No idea, but it annoys the hell out of me. It's the only damn thing in the car that leaks. I'm almost ready to take a brand new master cylinder, drill and tap out the holes and make a metal resevoir that connects via AN fittings...

Aaron, where did you found those sections of els pipe? I tried looking at industrial plumbing suppliers and they simplying laughed in my face saying there's no such pipe or premade bends...

I'm seriously considering doing this for my brake m/c because the (designed for RHD cars) Greddy FMIC that I have really interferes with the stock one.

as far as loudness goes, you may be surprised.

I built a new exhaust for my car last week and plumbed the wastegate in.

3" pretty much straight-through design with 4 ~30deg mandrel bends total in the whole thing (not including the wastegate plumbing, it has 3 more) to a 3" in/out straight through 7" thermal R&D can... the car isn't exactly "quiet" but it's nowhere near loud enough to get you pulled over.

This may sound weird, but I don't know where they come from.

Chris at CP Racing gets them for me, and I don't ask any questions.

Your pipe guys may be playing an old joke on you. If you walk in asking for pipe bends, they are going to look you straight in the eye and say "there's no such thing". And it's true, because all pipes are straight. Nipples are short sections of pipe with threads on each end for connecting two runs. What you need are els. Els come in various bend angles and various radii.

However, in automotive terms we generally done use pipe, we use tubing. Pipe is measured in inside diameter, tubing in outside diameter. So if you try to match a pipe el to a tube size, it won't fit.

Finding tubing els is harder. Most FRIENDLY industrial pipe guys can point you in the right direction but the small cast bends I use are hard to find. In all of Toronto (3+ million people) there are only a few sources. You'll have the best bet looking at suppliers that deal with the food industry as these els are commonly used for food transport (in stainless or nickle).

If I recall, there are many online sources like McMaster Carr and the like. A Google search for "weld els" will turn up a lot.

Now, if you want pipe els, they are very common and dirt cheap unless you get to big sizes. Should be available at most industrial plumbing suppliers but find one that deals with the public....

I've installed one of those before, and we just trimmed the pipe where it met the throttle body.

It's almost impossible here to get pulled over for noise. In fact I'm planning to run my PP GSL-SE with no mufflers and dump pipes in front of the rear tires. I'm just that much of an *******. For noise, I'm more concerned about what it will be like driving the car. The last thing I want is to have to put on ear plugs every morning but I doubt that will be the case.

Additionally, it is very difficult to take pictures of the colours I chose because they have so much depth that the camera cannot capture. Couple that with poor lighting (it's a garage, after all) and things kind of bleed together. The entire engine is done in alternating black and crimson, which is the colour scheme for the entire car. The main issue is that the camera can't capture it properly so in the pictures it just looks alright...In the sun it's breathtaking and matches the rest of the car perfectly.

sorry about the ghetto comment, it probably should have been in quotes, i was trying to point out why i thought everyone else was saying it was ghetto.

its not the choice of colors, the colors are nice, but everything is the same and you're not giving people a place to latch on to visually. your eye moves around and you find yourself looking at things like the wiring harness, and the brake master, and not the cool custom intake manifold. put a stock alternator on it, and see the difference it makes.

the brake master thing is just weird, ive seen the gommets leak, but changing em always fixes it?

Thick-wall steel piping is only used for industrial applications, which is why you don't see it in retail stores. You have to go to an industrial pipe supplier. We use this extensively in the HVAC industry for chilled and heating water pipe. We get most of ours from these guys.

Regarding the colours, if you look at most OEM engine bays, there's nothing that immediately takes your attention. Everything is integrated normally just silver and black. That is partly what I wanted in my engine bay. Nothing jumps out at you (well, the silver intercooler pipes probably will) but as you look you start to notice more and more. I'm not the least bit interested in explaining the car to those people who just glance...they have no idea. I'm far more interested in the person who asks "So how did you grind the welds inside of the intake runners?".

As for the mufflers, I've had those since late 1999 and just love them. Full stainless, sound great, 2.5" straight through. The RX-7 rear end looks much better with dual exhausts (single exhausts on cars are disgusting) and the 4 tips makes it look beefy, almost Corvette's. Not that I'm trying to make a Corvette but I really like the symmetry created by 4 tips.

Aaron, you are a pretty damn good fabricator but the style is something off of 'Waynes World'.

props to you aaron even though i wouldn't go the same route as you...different strokes for different folks.

at least you're doing something your self in stead having daddy pay for it or someone else doing the work for you.

I don't want to trim the bumper because in the future I will have a different exhaust setup that will likely fit within the stock bumper opening.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it. I just read all of your threads on this motor. All I can say is WOW! You have a very good eye for what you want. You know how to turn that idea into a tangible solution. I like your attention to detail and thoroughness. I love the color and I wonder how it has help up.

My only complaint it that you didn't delete all the dolts filling up your threads with idiotic, ignorant posts. I think it would have taken my half the time to read all of this if those people committed suicide before finding your threads.

Since I still don't know what happens with this motor, I'm going to continue searching for more info. I will understand if I find that you didn't make any more posts about it because you were so frustrated about your threads becoming child care center.

Excellent work. I wish we were neighbors. Actually, think you might sponsor my wife and I for citizenship?

Sweet holy 5 year thread resurrection!

tweaked, the way I see it with the "haters" is basically to let the babies have their bottles. If they want to bolster their fragile self esteem by insulting someone else, then really, that's their own problem and it speaks volumes as to the pathetic life they must live. There are people like this in every car community I've been involved in and you know what? Universally, their cars spend more time on jack stands than on the road, and while they are a big keyboard warrior on forums, they never show their faces at meets and events. Just do a post search on those flaming me in this thread and you'll see what I mean.

Now, the uglyness over, if you haven't read the rest of my threads, the easiest way to access them would be here:

http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/projecttina

That link leads to an archive of the threads on my own site, basically cleaned up and formatted for easier reading.

Actually it's been so long since I've done a Project Tina thread that it's time for another.
