mazdatrix-do they lie?
I would like some input to prove to someone that exhaust is a valuable mod to an rx7. this person does not believe that Mazdatrix is telling the truth about their horsepower gains on their website. Is it possible to gain more than 10 hp from an exhaust system? please post dyno sheets for the non believers
is it unbelievable claim that their true dual exhaust yields 28% increases

Rotary engines are very much exhaust oriented...a free flowing exhaust can and will give you a VERY noticeable gain in power. especally on a turbo, but also an NA.

You should pay attention to the fact that all of their full exhaust systems that make these claims do not contain catalytic converts. Those are the biggest restriction in any exhaust system that has them.

yeah I know that, i am trying to prove to someone that an exhaust system will make power, and a noticeable amount at that. i have duals with no cats but have never been dynod bec i don't really care what the exact number is enough to spend money to get it tested, i just would like to teach this person something.

Have you ever heard of marketing? Just like Windows is always 30% faster and more stable. Its all a gimmick. I suppose that adding split fire spark plugs increase power by 5hp as well

actually, you can't use split fires in a rotory, take a look at the plugs. you are a very distrustful person aren't you, have you been ripped off really bad before or something. cause i guess all of thes rx7 companies are in cahootz, cause all their numbers are pretty much the same. its all one big rx7 conspiracy, maybe we will get our story on X files.

Rotary Engine are VERY RESPONSIVE to EXHAUST Tuning
Car & Drivers Bonniville RX-3 saw a 50% increase in HP when they added a properly tuned Header & Exhaust. Removing the catalysts from any Rotary Engine will yeild LARGE hp gains especially above 5000 rpm 28% gain over stock with a full large tube exhaust system w/o catalysts and straight through mufflers is VERY Believable
just putting a DP and free Flowing CATBACK is good for 25-35 HP on an FD

I know you cant use regular spark plugs in a rotary, and I probably wont end up buying exhaust for this car either. Its not just an rx7 thing wpgrexx, all companies do it. Do you think one of these companies would make any money claiming 5hp gains?

"This system is the culmination of considerable testing time here at Mazdatrix, using many different designs and pipe sizes. The result is by far the best HP from a bone-stock 86-92 13B non-turbo we have seen. We showed a 28% increase in rear wheel HP on a chassis dyno with this system. Torque is increased greatly from 2000 RPM on up, with the power peaking at 7000 RPM."

wpgrexx, your not understanding what I'm saying here, they dont put out that much which is probably the reason why they didnt put the baseline dyno on there site. So instead of saying it puts out 5hp they say it puts out 28%. 28% of what? If the car was all fugged up because of clogged cats, dents in the tubing etc I mean come on
Someone post up an actual dyno sheet of a base line run and then full exhaust.
I gurantee you no one on this website will have a 28% increase in rwhp from before unless it was a turbo'd application.

Most amercian muscle cars dont respond well to exhaust upgrades because they have very restrictive EXHAUST MANIFOLDS and need HEADERS to make any gains on the exhaust side - this is NOT the case with most rotaries. In addition to rotaries being very sensitive to exhaust tuning MAZDA generally uses very efficient exhaust manifolds (except for the TRULY TERRIBLE 73-75 Thermal Reactors) and so ar very responsive to reducing restriction in the rest of the exhaust system

28% of 150 hp that 42 hp, which means roughly 192 hp, do u know how to use a calculator. why don't u email mazdatrix and ask them to see a copy of the dyno sheet. i'm sure they will help u realize your ignorance.

So your telling me they gained 42 rwhp on that engine?
Thats about as funny as a 1.6L Honda saying its new technology engine is faster because it puts out more power per cylinder
<-- Still waiting on a dyno sheet.

AbecX, you're the same guy that everybody is bitching about on other threads. Go away.
As for the 28% number, it might be a little high, but any mechanic that knows anything about rotary engines can tell you that rotaries are more responsive to exhaust work than piston engines.

ok, i dont perfectly believe that every car will gain 28% increase in hp, im sure there were clogged cats or somthing, but i know a member posted a while back about a 32.5hp increase in rwhp, and a guy i talked to said his n/a was running like a 14.6 1/4 with just this exhaust.
