Unhappy maybe selling my 87t2... What's it worth..I know its long but...

I bought it last june for 5.5k, I drove to NH to get it. Its an 87 turbo with 85k on the body and a new engine is being installed as I type this. I mazda guy who race preps a few RX7's is putting it in.

The car has never seen a winter and has been garage parked its entire life, the body is in mint condition, I mean the welds in the wheel wells and the lip are like glass, the seats have had covers on since it was bought by the last owner (a mid 40's engineer) in 88 with 12k on it. Hes documented every stinking thing on the car down to every time he fueled it and the milage, seriously, its sick:

- All the fluids have been replaced with redline
- RB full turbo back exhaust and RB FCD,

I bought a walbro for it and a permacool 16" both of which aren't installed yet.

- Tokico blues, RB springs with 2k on them and RB rear toe eliminators with .1 mile on them.
- He cut the airbox open and dropped in an HKS intake, I have another airbox cover to replace it though.
- Last year I replaced all the hoses with blue silicone
- I had the wastegate ported and last year I installed an a-piller pod with air-fuel and vdo boost.
- Replaced the clutch while engine was out and replaced the oil metering lines.
- The stock wheels are in killer condition as well. The only thing that sucks about the car is that there are these blue pin strippes on the side that are like 5 inches wide (they arent stock), they were done well but it makes the car look like a Miami Vice extra. The under carraige is super clean as is the interior. the carpet is in excellent condition.
- Oh yeah, I also installed a HKS turbo timer with a custom glove box mount to hold it. I have all the emmisions and AC removed all set asside and in excellent condition.

I had a MBC in the car and I think thats what has caused me to blow the motor after I already replaced it. 6 days after I bought it, the engine blew, then with less than 3k on the new engine, I blew an apex seal. the new engine has Atkins racing 3mm seals and rebuild. The mechanic and Atkins blame leaning out and detonation as the cause, I was running a tad too much boost on the stock fuel system. If I don't sell it I am going to get a SAF-C and and maybe after that 720cc's and an Starion FMIC.

from the outside, the car looks stock and Its faster than my friends lightly tuned WRX and even he thinks my car handles better than his.

This is my 4th RX7 and I love them but it doesnt fit in my life currently. I am married with 1 kid and 1 on the way and have a 1 car garage and we need a *gulp* mini-van. My wife hates the car and I sould get rid of it since I can only drive it 5 mon out of the year, and also own a golf.

I hoped to keep it as a collectors car but I cannot see that happening given everything else, the only parts on the car thats broken in the wipers switch, and rear wiper switch as well as the triangular vent under the apillar on the drivers side, one of the fins busted when routing the silicone for the boost guage. This was by far my favorite RX7

so, what do you think its worth. any offers?

sorry so long

jared

I can furnish pics when I get home.

But wait, you are married and will soon have 2 kids...so you can't be

Dude, I don't know much about pricing on TII's in the US, but the car sounds mint (and will have a fresh engine).

$4000K or OBO?

You are currently putting a new engine in it, you said?

I would say you could get $4k for it.

I agree, that your car is probably worth even more, but the reality is that the average would be RX-7 owner and most of the people on this board, want a cheap car...

Everybody is always looking for that elusive cheap TII, and very few people want to pay a premium for a really clean car

Would you sell it for 6K?

"Are you saying, you can't sell it at that price, or won't sell it for that cheap."

both

it would be a good deal for 4k without the new engine and all the other crap...

maybe 6k, I know I would be taking a loss, big time...for all the money I put into this car, Ive only drove it enough to break it in and then like 1-1.5 k miles more. like 4k total miles. sux.

yeah, maybe you could get more than $4k, you probably could...

but remember, a car is not an investment. Expecting to get back what you put into it is a dream...for any car.

maybe not all but getting 1.5k less than I spent 4k miles ago. On a car that I have sunk 3.5 last year and 1k(at least, this year) on. I am not expecting 8k but you certainly woulnt say that the cars asking price is 4k. The car would be a good collector's car. Don't you guys think that these car have serious collectiblity factor. It pains me to see them get ruined by neglect and time in general. Its like, an endangered species.

If that car is in pristine of condition as you say you can get well over 4k if/when you find the right buyer.
As long as you are in no hurry to sell it and you are willing to advertise it.
Remember you can always go down on price so start off above what you would take.
There are some people that are more concerned about having a perfect car than how much it costs them. They are fewer and farther between but they are there.
If you have any classic car auctions near you that permit you to auction this car (some classic car auctions would not let you put a Japanese car on the block)

Too bad you are on the wrong coast or you could take it to Sevenstock. Sure more people would lowball you there but you don't dick around with them. Tell them if they are looking for a cheap car then they need to keep looking.
Everyone at Sevenstock that had to make a trip to get there are serious RX7 people. Some are in the market and believe it or not some are actually there looking to offer people money on the "right" car. We are talking about people that bring their "baby" out to show it off getting serious offers on their cars.
More than one person has drove out to Sevenstock and flew back home over the years and not all of them had planned it that way.
That is the same at a lot of car shows. People with money are not afraid to make offers even if the car is not sporting a for sale sign.
The people that would offer you 4k for that are not worth talking to. The sooner you let then know it the sooner they will get a little more realistic in their offer or they will walk which is a lot less stressful.
Remember that you don't have to be rude about it even if they are. Lowballers tend to be ********* so you can just smile and think about how it must suck to be them
Good luck dude!

I am the type that thinks it's stupid to buy a cheap car, and fight constantly dumping cash into a chassis that's loosing it's battle with rust, rattels over bumps, and well, just feels worn out driving it. Keep in mind there isa difference between paying top dollar for a great example, and getting ripped off.

I would pay 6,000 for this car. Given it's got a motor worth about 2 grand alone in it. Also living in the rust makes you very envious of rust free FC's

I want 65. no less.

I bought the car for 5.5 and then sunk close to 5 into it. the car is so clean and it would make a great template for someone who wants to start fresh and start modding or keep the car the way it is and they could show in a few years.

I was gonna ask like 8 or 7.5. I realixe I half to sell this car to a fellow entusiast sine few could appreciate a car otherwise. I am waiting for people tp really want them when we start to see RX8's on the road, they'll take off after that, I think.

I'd honestly give you 7K for that car without a second thought.

I paid 8,000 CAD for mine, and it was absolutely stock, low mileage, not a speck of rust, and in absolutely pristine condition. You would not believe how many people think its a 2000 model.
