Mass Airflow Sensor

Hey guys. quick question... my roomate owns a skyline and he just recently replaced his mass airflow sensor with a Z32 sensor because his stock one is only good to 300 hp.. the new one is good to 600hp. now is this something i may have to do in the future? not swap with a Z32 obviously but get an aftermarket Mass Airflow sensor? What is the stock one good to? And where would i go to get myself an aftermarket one and what should i use?

yea, most people just run stand alones eliminating such need. Plus you'll get better reliability and power with good tuning.

what's BS about it? that he got it work on his skyline? alot of upgraded nissans swap out to a Z32 MAF. it will not work in a 7 though, standalone is what we use. the stock AFM is good to about 400RWHP, though it is a restriction it is still possible to see those numbers with it.

The AFM in these cars is pretty decent, I've been told that they're good for up to 300hp. However at that point you'll want to go standalone anyways for better fuel managment, beats the **** out of a fuel controller.

Alot of people also think that replacing it gives a shitload more airflow, however unless your running 300hp+ its pointless to replace. If anything, replacing the stock afm with say one out of a mustang thats bigger and using it with the stock ecu will really **** up your fuel curve. I wouldn't be surprized if you lose hp more than anything. The stock ecu has a preset map tuned for the exact amount of air the stock afm is designed to handle.

you can always use it as a blow-by setup, and it will let it meter more
but even if it is maxed, it is ok
a real piggy back, like emanage, not safc, allow you to make a fuel map at psi and rpm...

or you could run aic when it maxed out...
