manual transmission noise?

manual transmission noise?
is bearing noise common with these? mine was making a high pitched whirring sound any time the transmission was in motion (probably input bearing) so i replaced it with another used unit and it does EXACTLY the same thing.
is this just a common problem? or do they all make this noise and its just annoying but nothing too concerning?
when i go past 3500-4000rpm it sounds like i have a freaking supercharger or something. its crazy.

I think my 1991 convertible might have a similar thing happening. Even when I first start the car and it's in neutral I hear the transmission whirring away, then when I start to shift and drive it makes all kinds of weird whirring or soft grinding kind of noises. Things quiet down a bit after 15 minutes or so of driving but I'm thinking "this can't be normal for a transmission to do!"
I'm thinking it sounds like a bearing too....and I've heard 2 other people describe the same thing happening now. Did the cars come from the factory like this or is my rebuilt transmission need something more done to it?

im just wondering if theres any way at all this could be the rear bearing that supports the eccentric shaft.....or would that be much more noticable?
because i can get this noise and vibration to go away but ONLY in 4th gear and ONLY if i push the clutch in and re-engage it by giving it a certain amount of revs. like i'm torquing something differently and it will stop the vibration. it's almost as if the flywheel and clutch aren't spinning centrically

In general, if there's a whirring noise in neutral w/ the clutch released, it's the main/input bearing in the transmission. 4th gear also happens to be direct drive, so things inside the transmission work a little differently in that gear only.

Fixed my noise issue finally
I was sure after reading these threads that my transmission noises were bearing noises too. The car would make one kind of whirring/grinding sound when in neutral and then another when it was in gear. But after talking with the guy who rebuilt my transmission on my 91 convertible 5-speed he assured me that he had replaced everything in it and he didn't know how the whirring noises could be coming from the tranny. So I figured something was wrong with the mounts possibly and replaced them all....engine, tranny, and differential.
Bingo! No more whirring or grinding noises. I have little idea as to why this made such a difference as the old mounts really didn't look all that bad....but maybe they were worn out just enough to cause something to be touching the frame somewhere and making the noises. So anyway...if you've replaced your bearings a bunch of times and it still makes noise try checking those mounts.

my TII transmission with a hard 203,000 miles whines, i just press the throttle harder until the exhaust overtakes it.
an n/a transmission is a different story though, be sure you're using the correct type of oil. most typical manual transmission oil is too thin.

it was probably some sort of u-joint noise then if that was the case and the new mounts centered it up right.
Most of the time it is not an issue. It is the input shaft bearing. It might have gotten low on fluid with a leak at the rear speedo gear seal which is common.
Make sure it has fluid, deal with the noise and if it breaks then fix it. Every rx7 I have had has done this at some point or another at some level...
The first time I freaked out and replaced the tranny.

that is a good point, the tranny center mount if worn can cause the transmission noise to be emitted through the cabin because you have the transmission sitting right on the metal crossmember.
