Manifold Water O-rings, one halfway fell out...?

I just feel nervous about pulling it all the way out and trying to reseat it... I can't quite get it to stay in the hole it keeps popping out!
Are these o-rings tricky?

They are blue and up against the block. They mount between the manifold and block...

???...O-ring, not gasket, right?

I don't remember any blue (or any other color, for that matter) o-rings on my intake manifold, they were all gaskets. Maybe the turbo guys can help ya, 'cause that's gotta be why I'm not following you...

It's probably Blue gasket maker and not a real gasket.

I dunno if this will work... I can't get the bastard in there! The ring came all the way out and it seems as if its too big to go back in!

Or just give us an EXACT location, like "on the forward LIM runner-to-rotor housing", or something like that...

It's below the oil injector hole and above the exhaust port on the block... I think its for water to travel through the intake except that the hole is blocked on intake on the front (#1) rotor and not and the back one.

So engine has two functioning "waterholes?" rotor one is where the oring fell out of. And the intake only has one recieving hole except its to the back rotor side...
Curious....

Is that a VDI thing for the S5's?

All I know is it ain't on my S4...

Is it some kind of breather?

Where are the S5 gurus when you need them...

LMFAO at you guys.

Gasket maker...peripheral port...vdi...

You guys never worked on a turbo rotary huh? That is there on both front and rear rotorhousings of a 87-91 turbo block...the stock turbo pulls its water feed from the intake manifold, so water actually travels through it. Thus, you need oriongs to seal.

NEVER try to reuse one of the old o-rings. They tend to swell quite a bit after being used...perhaps this is a method to extend their life. IN any case, you'll need both new ones to do the job right.

FWIW, if you're in a pinch, you can get an identical o-ring from lowe's in the plumbing section. I've not had any problems from the lowes versions yet...I believe it's a #18 o-ring, in the plumbing section. Take your old one with you for verification...keeping in mind the replacement should be about 3/16" to 1/8" smaller.

Have a good laugh on me, Kevin, you guessed it, I've never worked on a turbo...

And, I've never blown an engine due to overboost, never trailed smoke due to a turbo leak, never had the car die in the middle of an intersection due to the TID hose falling off, etc...you get the picture...

Kevin... Are you the same Kevin that set an SUV on fire with flames from your exhaust?

You sound proud of that fact. It's nice to sit there and say that you don't have this problem, and don't have that problem, but I'll tell ya, once you go turbo, you won't go back NA (without EXTENSIVE mods and porting, anyway). Besides, if you go through a turbo setup from the ground up, you'll never have a problem. Those that get power hungry are the ones that have all the dead engines and such...under 300 is cheap, easy, and very fun.

Kevin... Are you the same one that set an SUV on fire with flames from your exhaust?
No, can't say that I did. But, I did get a ricer in a probe to back off my *** (I was in my FD, and he wanted to race) by roasting his front bumper (which was tucked nicely up my car's ***) the other night. Let's just say I didn't see much more of him that night

Man, you should have got video of that one, lol...

Kevin, I'm an old fart...Sure, every now & then I'll kick her in and go fast enough to kill myself, but I'm not exactly "young" anymore, and the testosterone levels have fallen to the point that I don't have to race everybody on the road (used to, though )...

So, don't need a turbo...Mine's daily driver only, no tracks, no stop sign racing, etc...Mods have stopped at an RB cat-back, Bonez hi-flow, and Bonez intake cone, that's all I need to keep me happy

Yeah, with a vengeance. My wife and I were coming back from dinner; she is 8 months pregnant, so I don't do much hellraising with her in the car (it's hard enough to get her into it in the first place). We passed a side street and this kid was turning in behind us, but several cars were between us. He cut off a shitload of people trying to catch up, and did 2 redlights later. I could hear him revving the **** out of his car. I take off slowly (he is behind me) in 1st and when I short-shift to 2nd, he damn near hits me in the ***...he won't back off. At that point, I put it in neutral and do the redline dance...<vroom><pop><flame><vroooom><pop><flame>

HE backed off...he damn near stopped right in the middle of the road. Just a few feet away was my turn, onto a long sweeping on-ramp. He fell in line behind me. He never stood a chance. I did get in it hard coming off the ramp, and by the time I merged (passed, whatever) I couldn't even tell where he'd gone.
