You might that a grand isn't near enough money to make it a blast. However, for some fun, do your exhaust. Get the RB downpipe. Yes, I said downpipe. It bolts to your stock manifold. I think you need the RB silencer too for that to connect it to your stock catback, but it'll get rid of your cats, and will free up A LOT of power. If you want to spend a little more, get the header/silencer combo.

save that $1000, and sell ur car and buy a tii. or if thta one is in excellent condition buy a parts tii or peice a conversion together. more than a grand, but more fun in the end. im having a blast with my modded NA, but chose to go turbo after only a year of dicking with the NA. good money to spend on an NA is, adjustable shocks and lowering springs. the handling this will give you will be FAR more fun than engine mods that wont add a whole lot. I would get a decent exhuast, filter, and shock/spring setup. But i cant preach enough how much damn fun a 7 with suspension is......

rotaryresurrection has a writeup on NA to turbo. pretty much, its easier to swap in tii stuff than to make your NA a turbo. making yours a turbo is completely custom and no kit made for it yet (that im aware of)

I spent around $2k on full suspension and a full racing beat exhaust for my car. Then I bought a new organic clutch kit(around $250) and a koyo($302) aluminum rad.
people love turbos but I'd rather upgrade everything I can
than run a cheap turbo setup.
I'd want to do a turbo the right way

+1 for the just keep it NA thing
Im still new to the FCs, but my heavy *** GXL will go sideways just as easily as any other RWD car, with the right suspension, it could do better... But if you wana mod your engine, I say save up another $4-800, send your block to Keven Landers(did i spell that right?) and call it a day... you could get a rebuild, which is a good idea anyway since your obvously not going to baby it, and a tired engine dosnt need beatings and turbos... and while hes in there, Porting is a good way for exelent power(ofcourse youll want to port your intake and exaust manifolds too) and as others have said, RB Headers and so forth... for power, which is of no use unless you are applying it correctly(IE, Get a Suspension first)
just my $0.02

$600 can buy you new springs and adjustable dampers. Try to find a used racing beat header, and have the rest of the exhaust fabbed by a muffler shop.
I have a racing beat header (bought used), racing beat presilencer (used), 2.5" pipe to a magnaflow muffler (2.5" in, 2.5" out, new). Labor included, it all cost me $430. Single exit exhaust.
Won't make it fast, but faster than stock. And the new suspension will rock around the corners. Get any extra cash, go for some nice tires and a quality alignment.

1k will get you a plug and play megasquirt stand alone ecu and probably a ebay turbo kit. Now if you do the entire install yourself you might be able to squeeze it in for 1k.
PM a member on the forum nuser name tofuball.
He has a complete t2 project car that is coming along, he is shooting for 400rwhp for 1k including the car so it can be done.

well you could do what everyone else said and buy a header and some suspension with a grand; or you could do what i did:
used light flywheel w/ used stage 2 clutch - $300
port your throttle body - Freebie
buy a header flange from racing beat and make your own header - i think the flange was under $50
make exhaust tubing and just use the stock muffler - $30
buy racing beats dtss eliminators - like $40
make a cold air intake - freebie
buy some racing beat swaybars - front and rear $350\
and bingo bango you have a reasonably quick n/a that handles better than stock and will be a joy to drive; and you'll still have some money left over for some air fresheners. now ive put a little more money than that into my car, but those are the first things i did and they made it feel like a brand new car.....Good Luck.

Alot less trouble, and more power/fun than anything you can do with 1k on an n/a.

if youre going for fast i would sell it and get an t2 ive owned both and theres no comparison. if you want fun just do suspension, fab an intake up and get an exhuast shop to make you an exhuast =D
