Since this thread is revived... Turned out that my original sender got shorted somehow (probably the sealant fumes) durring the rebuild and fried the guage. The metal bar wrapped with wire (bimetal strip) was blued all the way along the coil. Ooopse. New gauge and it works beautifly.

Let me in on that one...I'd attempt it myself if I didn't have to get into taking appart the intake manifold and associated parts. Doesn't this front cover just unbolt without taking off the intake manifold? Second question - anything I should be aware of BEFORE I start this? I take it that the only "parts" I'll need are the "O" ring...silicon gasket goo...the actual gasket for the front cover...the teflon "o" ring (if I have the later style cover)...oil, naturally...and that's about it. Give me the heads up...thanks.

oops, sorry about the bum-steer on the intake manifolds! The whole thing is pretty straightforward -- not too bad, just be sure you don't forget anything else when you put it back together
