I just got done reading the other thread, 4 pages worth, about the HKS BOV and FMIC's you and walkel7 posted in.
Anyone figure out which BOV can hold boost and not have compressor surge with our cars?
I'm running a similar setup to yours.

BTW Bryan@BNR suggested the old HKS racing BOV. But I forgot to ask if it was so stiff it was hard to blow off or not.

thats actually what i have and I don't have a problem with compressor surge or leaky boost

Which one do you have, the old school HKS racing bypass valve?
this one?

How much boost are you running?
Do you have a FMIC?

the bov came with the old school fmic so i don't know what spring is in it however I can tell you it hasn't leaked boost yet so it must be a good size spring and until now I had no idea what exact kind of bov I had until you posted that link, lol so thanks for that
I do get light compressor surge if I rev in neutral but thats it. Is that what you where discribing?

yea well i dont get it by revving at idle under pretty much atmospheric and under slight vac letting off will reward me with some surge . under normal boosting it works like a charm but I'm not always in boost

Shouldn't hurt the turbo with compressor surge under light throttle. I think that is the trade off for holding boost on a RX7, our cars don't pull that much vacuum as piston engines to aid in blowing off the BOV.
My damn crappy *** Blitz BOV leaks unless I set it so tight it doesn't even blow off under hard boost. If I set it so it blows off under light boost (3-4 PSI) it leaks like hell and all my boost goes out the BOV.

and according to him a stock 2nd gen will do 224MPH with just a chip to eliminate the "revv limiter"
he is such an idiot.

EDIT: and Stan, my Greddy type S has the same problem. Light boost = compressor surge.

Ben tightened my actuator arm so it boosts to 14 psi...I don't know if it holds all the way to redline because 1st and 2nd are all wheelspin and by the end of 3rd I'm going pretty damn fast and don't have time to watch traffic and my boost gauge
I have the bov on the hot pipe with the vac source is coming off one of the three front vac lines on the UIM. Yeah when it blows off it goes pretty damn hard..though I haven't been there to feel it considering it doesn't blow off from a free rev.

ilike2eatricers I realize that compressor surge will damage the turbo over time however I think it is an inevitable trade off that if you have your BOV tight enough to hold boost it will not blow off under light throttle. It's seems like give and take. Longer turbo life or more boost.
Good to see you got your low boost probs solved as well nick.

You basically tighten it until you reach the boost level you want to achieve. You are esentially telling the WG when to open (specific PSI desired). If your WG is ported properly it will open and sustain the boost level you want. If it's to small you'll get boost creep.
