loud clunk, starter dead?
alright, out of nowhere, i think my starter just died last night. it gave no warning, the car started right up every time until last night. my battery is good, battery connections good, but when i try to start the car, all i get is a loud clunk. i tried smacking the starter with a set of pliers (didn't have a hammer) and that didn't help.
i know the battery is good because if i have the headlights on when trying to start, they dim down big time like there is a huge strain on the battery, but then when i let go of the key, the lights come back on full blast very quickly.
so has anybody else had this problem? do you think i need to replace the whole starter, or just the solenoid? to me it sounds like the pinion is stuck and can't get out to the flywheel to spin.
thanks for reading

Check the battery post connections, 50% of the time this is it, trust me. 6 months of corrosion = no start. It sounds stupid but it happens. And if that doesn't work, I've got a rebuilt starter from an automatic to sell you, rebuilt 6 months ago with 18 month waranty
