Losing fuel upon fill up
I have noticed that when i fill up my 87 FC, with in maybe thirty or forty miles I lose my first fourth of a tank. The rest of the tank goes at a much slower pace...........what can i do to fix or remedy this..........what could be wrong? Or..........lord forbid with gas as high as it is, is it something ill have to live with? I mean the car is bad on gas as it is.............and its just plain weird.

Mine kinda doe that too. It hangs at the half-tank mark for an abnormal amount of time, then starts to go down again, but using my trip odometer I have confirmed I'm getting average mileage and I fill up at around 240 miles pretty consistantly.
My sife's 96 Civic goes down quickly all the way until it hits empty, at which point you actually have another two gallons until the gas light comes on at which point I have one gallon left.
Case in point: fuel guages aren't always acurate.

Just your guage.. mine only shows 3/4 when I fill up.. goes to F if I hit the breaks... but goes back to 3/4 after 20 miles or so... Your tank isn't actally 3/4 just your gauge not sending the correct signal.
Your fine.. not leaking gas or anything.

my gas gauge doesn't read too accurate either. how can i possibly get 200+ miles for half a tank and then manage to use the rest of the tank in another 70-80 miles? basically, if i get about 280 per tank, i don't pay attention to the gauge much.

HOW MUCH MILES ARE YOU GETTING FOR A FULL TANK OF GAS?
The Zenki 16 gallon fuel tanks should be getting at least 200 miles per tank.
If you're getting 200 miles+, you're fine.
The gas tank gauge is non-linear for a reason.
Consumer researchers a long time ago figured out that Joe Schmoe off the street panics if the gas tank gauge was linear.
Most gas gauges read very slowly initially, drop real fast in the middle, and slow down at the end.
For the first 1/8 to 1/4 tank, if you're getting around 50 miles (you said 40), that's normal.
The middle half of the gauge drops very rapidly.
By the time you hit 1/4 tank, you should be around 170 to 180 miles.
KOUKI FC's with larger fuel tanks does not apply!
