loosing weight

Air conditioning To save weight I removed all the air conditioning ****….but my friend said that there is one more cooler/radiator thingy behind the firewall and under the dash. How hard is this to get to on a 1988 rx7? Is it worth it? also what else can i drop to loos weitght. thanks

I would not mess with the one in your dash since it's a pain in the *** to remove (so I've heard) and it's only a few pounds. If you don't drive distances, you can always remove the spare tire and jack from the rear.....just a thought. Also, if you've got the A/C removed, and from another thread you posted you were thinking of removing the power steering, then you can also ditch that huge A/C P/S bracket bolted to the side of your engine.

Don't bother trying to get that sucker out. Would take all day and a whole bunch of plastic dash stuff would get broken in the process. All for about 5 pounds. I don't think it would be possible to get out without pulling the dash, and believe me, that ain't fun.

No it's not that hard to get off!

All you have to do is take the whole glove box off (meaning the door, and in box that is acctually in the dash), and there is 4 10mm nuts that hold it to the fire wall. Just get a ratchet, extension, and a swivel. And you can get it out in like 30 minute's or so.

And if you want more weight saveing, have some real fun, and chip off all the sound deadiner on the inside of your car. That took me a good days work with an air chissel. But after doing it, I removed ALL of it, and if only weighed about 25 lb. or so.

I second that. Pulled the one from my '91 in a few min.

Remove the glove box first. Unclip the clamps that hold it to the blower box and the heater box. Pull the 4 10mm nuts and pull it out. Box and all is about 10lbs. If you may want to put the box back in after you pull the evaporater and expansion valve etc out of it. Or just use some flex type hose to go between the blower fan and the heater box.

While you have the glove box out check the weight of the glove box door. 6 lbs. A lot to just cover the glove box up.
