Looking at a vert, couple questions

Well I get to go and look at a vert tomorrow, it's $500 and I am not expecting much. I know what to look for on a coupe, and I will apply what I know to the vert, but my main questions are, what should I look for as far as the top is concerned.

I know rips and tears and motor problems, is there anything else I should know.

Does it run? I paid $450 for my vert shell. It needed a new top, tires, motor the list goes on.. but it was rust free... worth every penny.. Regardless the rims and hood are worth the asking price. I sold my Vert wheels for $250. made up half of my purchase price.

It doesnt run But has good compression from what the owner said on the phone. So Ill try a couple things and see if I can get it to run. The body is supposed to be rust free, and from what he said was garage kept during the winter.

If you have ANY smells of mildew or wet carpet (or even if you dont) PULL THE CARPET UP and look underneath it. Many people say "rust free" but what they really mean is "I didn't see any rust on the outside". Also, for what it's worth, it seems like replacement carpet for the vert is hard to find -- there may be a few out there now, but I've heard rumblings from a lot of people that it's been nearly impossible in the past.

When i got mine it had rust on the seat mount bolts, and i found that to be odd since the seals were just replaced. So i looked at the top catch trim piece on the frame and it had slid out so i put it back in and it hasn’t leaked since.

-so the moral is the presence of rust or a leak is not always hard to fix.

-you shouldn’t care if people crap on the weight or sluggish of the vert, they are HOT! you shouldn’t pass it up if you can they are kind of rare.

For 500 bucks it worth parts!!! I love my 'vert, it's my DD. Look for whatever they said above for rust and stuff, otherwise just as you would if you were looking at a car.
