looking at buying an 87! help
so i had a 1st gen for a bit sold it before last winter
and old friends brother is selling his 87
its rust free from where i have looked
but what should i really be watching out for besides bad oil! or gassy oil
its got around 180k but i know they put in another motor at some point
any tips guides things i should watch out for !

95% of buying a RX is just the same as for any other car...body, paint, interior, suspension, brakes, etc. There is nothing especially unique about the Mazda in these areas so you can apply the same standards as normal.
If there is no documentation/proof of a motor swap/rebuild just assume that it hasn't been done.
In fact, assume that no maintenance or replacement has been performed unless you can see new parts or receipts for same.
Despite the aura of Wankel uniqueness and the attendant mythology. the RX7 was marketed as a car capable of daily operation and you should be able to approach it as such. Just close your eyes and pretend it's any other 20 year old car and go from there.
