Looking to buy a car!
Alright everyone I'm a 17 year old kid from Long Island looking for his first car. I've been studying cars since I was like 13. Now is the time for me to buy a car and I've been looking at Mustangs and 2nd Gen RX-7's. I know every little thing about a Mustang but I'm clueless to info about RX-7's. I've been looking at the 89 GTUS. I was wondering if everyone here could tell me about:
1. The base HP and Torque of these 2nd gens
2. Disadvantages of owning an RX-7
3. Aftermarket scene
4. Advantages of buying an RX-7 over a Mustang
Thanks
Rob

1) Don't remember.
2) The engine. When properly maintained, the Rotary is a beautiful thing. When left neglected, however, watch out. When buying an RX-7, make sure you ask about the service record and how it was used. Blown apex seals are definatly no good.
3) The aftermarket scene isn't quite as 'developed' as the Honduh market, but there are more then enough parts out there for us.
4) The main advantage: it's NOT a mustang. (import good, domestic bahhh'd, *warning* personal opinion)
I just bought an 88 GXL to replace my totaled 92 Integra and 87 Civic Si daily driver. It is an incredible improvement. I like.

First off I am looking a buying a TII and do not know as much as some on this site. but i will anwser your questions as much as I have learned so far
1. Hp i think about 170 torque, not sure probly about 150 or so, the best part tho is that the 7 has really close 50/50 (50.2%/49.8% weight distrubiton
2. Not much low end torque, only carry 2 ppl comfterably. and when ported a pain in the a$$ to drive on the street
3. pretty good, lots of cheap/inexpensive mods that bring up hp and tq a bit. this site/community/forum is great lots of ppl who know their cars and the parts avl for them
4. It handles better than a mustang (a lot better) engine lasts longer (300k) if redlined every once and a while. cheaper than a mustang (used to new anyway). more fun than a mustang ( i really dislike solid rear axles on sports cars) if you hit a bump while corering, on a stock sus, you can kiss that lovely traction good bye.
ne way I hope that helps make you a convert good luck buying a car whatever you buy
