OK i Know for a fact that i have a s5 core and the end plates had to be changed to fit in my s4 chassis. i have also been told that s4 and s5 manifolds are different. It is for this reason that I am unsure which long block components I have right now. I started wondering when i was reading silverrotors ad for the fd alternator i will be buying later this month. It specifys different installs for s4 and s5 and started to wonder.
So... what long block components would a s5 core in a s4 chassis have? The s4's or the s5's? How can i tell?
I am not sure if this is a noob question. I hope its not ridiculous.

Different people use the term "long block" differently.
For me, "long block" means all manifolds (intake and exhaust), turbo, throttle body, and for 13BT's the IC and all intake plumbing up to the turbo itself.
Add also the clutch system...

S4 and S5 engines will bolt into either chassis without modification.
The problem is electronics. It's easiest to use the ECU that the car came with, which generally means keeping the intake manifold that came with the car.
Also, if you need to match the front cover and metering oil pump to the car. S5s have an electronic metering oil pump, which the S5 ECU MUST see and the S4 ECU cannot control. And you need the matching front cover to mount the pump.
