light weight flywheel

I've been thinking about this for a while and i'm not sure what to think. If i was to install a light weight flywheel would i have to change the internal counter wights. I know that some light flywheel kits come with counter weights so would i have to pull the engine and put in new counter weights or am i missing something. any info would help. Thanks.

You drop your transmission, remove the pressure plate and clutch disk.
You remove the stock flywheel, replace with the lighten flywheel and matching rear counter weight. (its the rear counter weight from automatic transmission cars of the same engine year)

FYI, you will see a drop in your a accelleration loss off the line, but the engine will rev up faster.

You have to get a counter weight. Its not different from the one on your car now but, the one you have is on your flywheel. Its just one piece.

So your saying that the stock flywheel and counter weight are a single unit? Is that way you have to purchase the counter weight when you buy and after market flywheel?

Also are all counter weights the same? I mean, If you buy a light weight metal flywheel, will the counter weight be the same as the light weight aluminum flywheels counter weight?

P.S. Does this go for third gens too?

Thanks

Yup there are all one piece. That is why you need the counter weight. Should be able to get one from the place you got your flywheel though. They always have complete kits for each car.
The counter weight has to be matched to your front weight. All of them are different as far as car applications, but it does not matter what type of flywheel you get.(Alum, steel) The 2nd gens use a few different ones. For the S4, for example, one off of a auto 86-87" auto (I think) will work for the S4 TII's.
The same goes for 3rd gens.

Word, Thanks. Thats why they said I didn't need a new counter weight when I went from a Steel flywheel to the Aluminum. Just wanted to make sure that I didn't have to buy another $119 counter weight.
