the life of your rotary
just a poll. i was wondering the longest/ and shortest (if you wanna tell) life of your rotary. was the blown engine a rebuild or was it original. if a rebuild let us know who rebuilt it. also, what engine was it.

Bought a new GTU in '90. Rear rotor blowm at 228,000.
Replaced with a Mazda re-built. Junked it due to Michigan winter salt at 315,000. Replaced with a '90 GXL with 93,000. Now at 114,000 and not a trace of major problem. Kidos to maintained 7's!

My previous '88 GXL made it 146k on the original engine, still running great when I sold it. The current '86 Sport just rolled 130k on the original engine, hopefully to be replaced with a TII engine long before it blows.

Wow, I didn't know people had this high of mileage on their stock motors. When I got my first broken 7 it had 156k mi on the original motor, which is very high considering the condition of the rest of the car (not to mention the look of the engine itself). Seems like Mazda built a killer motor with a bad rap for dying quick.
I know of at least 10+ Supras (N/A & Turbo) that didn't have more than 100k before the HG blew. I've had Hondas that haven't even made it to 140k.

I've got 169,000 on my 87 na motor. It's the original motor too. It's got some problems like an oil leak which I quite can't find, and is not putting all the power to the ground like it should. (It's got headers single exhaust, and intake) but it runs fine and is a joy to drive.

178,XXX on my 86 N/A, still running good except for that whole coolant seal problem, which was my fault (let it overheat when I first got it)
