LHD to RHD conversion

Honest opinion, how hard do you think it would be ?

i found a RHD front clip (s4 although it says its an s5) for around 1800

and then i found a Very clean shell for 700 but needs a motor.

Would you guys recommend this or not ?

Any other parts i would need ?

well i remember in my civic days that it took some serious fab skills if u want to straight up change the front...but if ur just swapping its in the medium range...biggest obstacle is finding interior parts

Am I missing something here? Why wouldn't you just swap in the clip's motor to the clean shell and call it done? Way easier than swapping the dash, wiring, and rest of the interior. Or does this shell need the front end replaced?

To do a RHD swap your talking serious man hours removing the entire dash, removing everything from the firewall. And either modifying your firewall, or doing some major cutting and welding.

Sorry but this is a rather complex swap. Anyone that comes on a forum to ask "how to make this car rhd" is obviously lacking in expierance, or just logical thinking. I am not trying to flame, I am just saying, its one of those things, if you need to ask, your better off not trying until you pack in a good bit expeirance, unless of course this is a straight project car.

Just remember to label things as you remove them, put your bolts nuts and screws in baggies and label those. etc.

It's hard.. I have a friend who was struggling with the wiring for months.. There are strange differences between USDM and JDM interior wiring.

Because its mad tight JDM yo, never mind that you can't see the on coming lane very well even more so if your following a Truck, SUV, or Semi. Hope you don't plan to overtake on any 2 lane roads.

I think it would be cool to have a RHD swap, ideally it doesn't make any sense, BUT it would be a novelty to have..

After i sold my 240 (I did jspec turbo swap), one of the later owners converted it to rhd and put a skyline RB motor in it.. I thought it was tasteless because of how he did it.

I think it can be cool if the rest of the car you keep a japanese theme to it.. i.e. coilovers, no autometer gauges (nothing wrong with them, just stick with japanese brand gauges that you would likely find in a jdm car)

To each his own i guess, but to me, its a big waste of time and money. Spend the money on more horse power or better handling, or braking. You will be much happier and have lots more fun. Have you ever driven a rhd with a manual transmission? It's very difficult to get used to when you have been driving LHD all your life. My 2 cent

I think it would be awesome to own a rhd car, simply for the uniqueness of it all. Practicality is for the daily driver.

There's lots of things we can argue about with rhd vs lhd in their non-respective origins.

Wouldn't it just be easier to purchase a rhd vehicle? Not too many people up here are interested in them, and they're relatively inexpensive. Plus, the lhd vehicle would be worth nothing when you finished it, in my opinion.

Plan at least 100-200 hours worth of work to do it properly. You're dealing with around 25 year old wires. 25 year old electronic modules. 25 year old brittle plastic pieces. You will need to either swap the whole firewall or a section of it, and you will need to do this perfectly. You will need to have the skills to cover up where you welded that to make it unnoticeable. You will need to get door harnesses. You will need all the rhd dash pieces and switches in perfect condition. You will need to study pinouts and adapt the rear harness. You will need to fabricate a hole for the wiper motor, and get the rhd wiper linage, in good condition. you will need rhd door mirrors that are skewed to the right seat.

Then you get to deal with the brake booster, master cylinder, clutch master, and steering rack all being wrapped around the turbo.
Then you get to deal with finding replacement parts when stuff breaks.

There, a touch of reality just hit you. It takes some serious dedication, knowledge, and planning to make it work properly. Its not a thing you decide to do just because you get a deal on some parts for it.

I still have the plans of creating an Infini IV replica out of my sunroofless FC... Needs to be perfectly done, and look exactly like the original(besides for the usdm vin) . Just don't have the time right now.

Well, if it's just for the purpose of having a JDM ride, then it's not worth it. I would get the half cut, swap all the goods in the shell, and call it a day.
