He he, thanks. The aircraft in my avatar is a Q2:
It was an 80's era experimental homebuilt airplane made from fiberglass and urethane foam. Two seats side by side, 180 mph true airspeed @ 7500 ft. on a 65 hp engine. It was a very small plane but very cool. I'm not sure how many kits were sold and airplanes actually built from them, but I've seen them in person and they are so cool. The wingspan is 16 feet!

i believe i saw one of those, or one similar to it, at an oshkosh fly-in one year. was with a group of EZs.
One day theyll figure it out, big wing at the front, little wing at the back

Because anything in an engine bay that is not solidly mounted will shake itself to death over time. Common sense says spending an hour properly mounting your AFM will save you the hassle of a faulty unit in the future.
I'm sure 88IntegraLS's AFM mounting is only temporary, and a proper bracket will be made once the intake's complete.

Hmmm.... Kinda reminds me of this one time I held my diff in place with an old thong* and some (read: alot) of fencing wire when my diff mount went and I had to get it home...
Anyway getting back to air ramming and crap, I was fitting my new intercooler today... and I figured I may aswell make my new intake now since my new engine/gearbox isnt here yet and i'm in the mood for cutting **** up...
Sooooo what i'm thinking is having the air filter in a box inside where the brake duct WAS, since they're useless at cooling the brakes anyway.
What im wondering about is what the cons of having it setup this way would be? would there be too much of a pressure drop because of the piping after the filter? thinking about using 2in piping due to space constraints with the 'cooler pipping and also because thats the size of the compressor inlet, as you can probably tell I really have no idea with this non intuitive stuff like fluid dynamics
Note: Thong* as in footware, not underpants

2" is far too small and will cause too much pressure drop. Where is your IC pipe running?
I wouldn't put the filter in a box. The area where the washer bottle is can be turned into a big box fed by the brake duct. Relocate the bottle and open up the top of the brake duct.
This is basically what I'm working on. I'm looking for a replacement washer bottle to fit in the opposite side location. I don't have the complication of IC piping to worry about though.

NZ Vert,
Not sure if you read my post on the previous page, but this is exactly what I did (relocate washer bottle and use under fender area for a box to house the filter). Works amazing. I can take some pics if you wish.

I might have to go ponder about where else I can put it all..
I'll get some pics to explain better soon I hope.. (and i'll get a shot of my new intercooler for ya'll aswell )

Now your still thinking that a filter element in the box, say in the brake duct area, would be a bad idea hey? (not thinking about the obvious problems such as it getting dirty very quickly)
You think I should have the filter closer to the compressor inlet rather than closer to the cold air flow?

I'm sorry guys. About a month ago I moved out of my house and left behind my garage and web hosting. I am a poor college student living in a studio quad now, and my FC projects are at a standstill. I don't know if I will ever finish this thread or not.
I did eventually install the air box and cover over my air filter, but it has gaps where it meets the lower unibody so it is not sealed as would be expected for a true ram-air setup. It has made an improvement on the car's warm-engine temp power and really shows when I am driving along the highway, so it was useful if just as a cold air intake.
But sorry about the pics.
