Leading coil questions
I have searched and I believe I either have a bad leading coil or a problem with the CAS. However, no previous post addresses exactly my situation.
I have a 89 NA vert. It has a jacobs ignition box. Recently the car will just die at idle. I checked the TPS and it was bad. I replaced it with a working TPS and all was fine for a few days. It started dying randomly at idle again. I checked the TPS again and it is fine. I then checked the timing and found that there was no spark on the leading coil. I noticed that if I revved the motor that there would be a weak spark from either L1 or L2. If I pulled the trailing coil wire the car would immediately die. I tested the voltage to the leading coil and it read 7.8 volts, I thought it should be ~12 volts.
I went out this morning and fired it up and the spark is back and it is strong. The TPS and timing are dead on. I drove it to work this morning about 17 miles and when I got close to work it started to have a hard time holding idle again. I checked to see if there was spark at the leading coil and again it has none.
My plug wires are good 10mm magnacor and the plugs have only 1000 miles on them.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
David
