Im pretty sure most everyone has seen this problem.. but i just wanted to make sure that there isnt an easy fix before i sell off my rx7..
it over heated.. then came the clouds of white smoke..
people told me its the apex seal. is there ways of fixing this? could there be a problem other than the apex seal? maybe it isnt even something too hard to fix or maybe it just needs a new engine.. i dont know much.. but if someone could help me out. that would be awesome.
if i need a new engine.. anybody know where i could get a really cheap one?
thanks
-Ricky

importers can only get you jspec engines which are turbocharged, if this is an n/a you can only hope to find a used one somewhere or have yours rebuilt.
my shop is about 2.5 hours from you but cheap is relative, i am probably one of the cheapest rebuilders in the state, though $1500 for a short block rebuild(engine out of the car) is not cheap to some people but it is in the world of rotaries. if you can't afford that then your only alternatives are to try and find a good used engine or sell the car.

thank you. if i can come up with some money ill consider. i found some rotary shops around here but i havent seen how much it would cost to rebuild. seems to be lots of work. is it possible to put another type of engine? is there any other cheaper engines that could be used instead?

you can do the turbo engine swap but the japanese imported engines have a rather rough track record and almost all of us rebuilders recommend they be reconditioned before installation and not because we need the work, most of us are overbooked.
if you plan to do the swap also you will need all of the california emissions equipment for the series engine you install and then it will need to be inspected by the state referee and signed off as a legal swap. all in all to do this right would probably cost in the neighborhood of $1200 or so just in labor for the swap, more depending if you want all of the drivtrain upgraded.
there is Rotorsport on ElCamino real in Sunnyvale and there is Rick's Rotary in Pleasanton, bring your heart pills with you because the estimates will be tough to swallow.
