Lightbulb KYB AGXs and RSR race springs or Ground Control coilovers?

My '87 GTU project is running out of money. I'd like Ground Control coilovers, but they are double the price of the RSR springs. The car is going to be a weekend toy with trips to local autocross events and a few blasts down the 1/4. The car is gutted and all the sound deadening was taken up. I know it seems kind of silly at this point to not buy coilover springs with the way I'm going to use the car, but $200 is $200.

Does anyone have 1st hand experience with the RSR Race Springs? No conjecture needed here. I want real world experiences. How low did the car end up? How is the tire clearance and what size tires are you running?

Ground Control recommended 400 lb/in front and 250 lb/in rear springs and KYB AGX dampers. The RSR springs are 335 and 224 lb/in so I'm confident the dampers will cope with the RSR springs. I just need a little more info than I have at the moment.

Question

Ok , how about anyone's experience with AGX dampers and Ground Control coilovers? What rates did you get, do the dampers do a good job of contolling the suspension movement with those springs, how low is your car, etc?

Thanks!

Wow, no replies in a full week. At this point I'm leaning towards the RSR springs to keep the budget in check. I guess I'll be first to report on how well they work. I'll also have to let out the awful truth about my '87 GTU, but I'll wait until it's driving. Right now she's a trailer queen with no drivetrain! I'm living in a rental house until my new place with a 3 car garage is built so I'll be working in the driveway if I'm going to get anything done. At least I have enough garage space to assemble the engine.

Maybe try the race or suspension forum. The funny thing is I know there are people here who have the RSR springs or the GCs.

If you do a search for ground control coilovers you should be able to find all the info you need or want on them. There are a bunch of threads about quality, height adjustment, types/lengths/etc. of custom applications you can get from GC, etc.

The RSR's seem good untill you look at them more closely. They drop the rear way too far and drastic measures will need to be taken to avoid having tire shredding negative camber. Also they are hot wound springs. For those of you who don't know much about spring, this is generally considered to be BAD (read Carroll Smith).
